Diamond Hunt: MHC Anything Goes Episode 4

  • Published on

Day four of Michael Deering's December 2013 challenge picks up in the caves where day three ended, and Basket is still getting hearts back after the witch. "Oh, you're still healing, I forgot!" Someone already has a wish list for the next trip: enough gold and redstone "to make me a watch."

Lost on the way home

lostinthefort is chipping away at coal by torchlight ("Dude, that's enough coal"), and the trip back to base turns into a group search. "I think I'm lost." "Wait, is this the way? I'm so lost." The torch rule from day three has grown into a running joke about the "faith" of the left-side torch placers. A zombie wanders up one of the tunnels on the way.

Cobble and charcoal

Near a lava fall Basket passes Scoti_Garbidis, and the team has a job for the day: cobblestone, and lots of it. "Have you guys got cobble?" One teammate leaves a pile behind ("I know, it fell through the floor"), and charcoal goes on to cook in the furnaces. Someone is carrying a pile of iron too: "Oh my gosh, I have 32 iron on me."

Rain on the river

Basket checks the chests, then climbs the ladder up the dirt tower to the walled lot. It is raining somewhere, but not here. "I think it's raining on the beach, but not in the savanna." "Savannas don't rain, do they?" The chickens need feeding, someone eats pork chops, and the rest of the team heads for the desert to dig sand and sandstone. "I've got almost a stack of sandstone already."

Going after a diamond

Basket has a different plan. Another entrant showed the coordinates of one of their diamonds on camera, and everyone in the challenge plays the same seed, so Basket digs down after it. "So when I dig straight down and you're like, 'Wait, how did we find diamonds?'" Up top the sun sets sooner than anyone expected, and the team argues over whether a day should run on a timer or on the sun. One vote: "I think we should stick with the day/night cycle. I think it's more accurate." Night brings a creeper to whoever is still out in the sand: "I'm in the desert, man, like, out exposed."

Four diamonds

Deep in the tunnel, Basket's iron pickaxe breaks into diamond ore. "So there's four diamonds." Basket sets down a fresh crafting table, makes a stone pickaxe first, and chat announces "Time to Mine!" and "Getting an Upgrade" for BasketMC on day four. Then three diamonds and two sticks go on the table, and Basket walks off with a diamond pickaxe and one diamond to spare.

Fourteen obsidian

The pickaxe gets its first job quickly. Basket finds a lava pool, empties a water bucket over it and mines out the obsidian underneath. The portal math happens over voice chat. "What do I need, 12? 12 for the portal, right? Plus 4." "No, you need 10." "You said 14, correct?" "Yes." Basket's inventory shows 14. Elsewhere the night is busy: bones, arrows, "two pieces of glowstone from that witch," and a plea for one teammate to stop wandering: "Please do not go outside the perimeter." By the time Basket digs a torch-lit stairway back up to the savanna it is daylight. "I'm thinking we call it." All four are still alive, and the end card follows with nothing after it.
