Day eight of Michael Deering's December 2013 challenge starts with chat showing Max_Writer and lostinthefort joining the game, and Basket still down in the Nether where day seven ended. Today is about quartz, walls, light, and putting things on the walls.
Quartz instead of a fortress
The fortress hunt is off: "Instead of actually trying to find a fortress, it was a waste of time, so instead I'm just gonna grab some quartz and go back. It was too dangerous." Basket mines quartz out of the netherrack with the diamond pickaxe and pulls the bow on a ghast before ducking through the portal and climbing the ladder home. Chat shows lostinthefort earning the Cow Tipper achievement, and cows turn up over voice too: "Cows! I found cows." Back at base the order for quartz is simple. "How many quartz do you want?" "All of the quartz."
An 84 on the roof
The quartz goes onto the roof of the sandstone building as a giant number, with Scoti_Garbidis up there placing blocks. "There's the eight." The four is harder ("I don't know how we're gonna make the four"), and the quartz barely covers it: "I've got two stairs left, literally." Down on the ground, the wall gets pushed out and the new space needs light before dark. The jukebox is still playing the only disc they have, and the verdict on 13 is harsh. Basket opens the sound settings and switches the music and the jukebox off.
Lost after dark
Night falls with chickens loose and one teammate, out after cattle, somewhere past the walls. "Which way did you go?" "Opposite of the desert." Basket builds a tall netherrack pillar topped with torches as a marker: "You should see Basket's pillar. And there's a gate right near it." Two creepers are waiting by that gate, and the arrows are running short: "I have three arrows." After a few rounds of directions the teammate finds a way in, and the gate closes. "Mission successful." The haul makes the trip worth it: "34 leather and... 70 steak."
Item framing all the things
"The pool is done!" Then the question of the night: "How many display frames do you want me to make?" Armor already sits in two frames upstairs, and the list grows fast, with a diamond, flowers and a gold ingot: "So I have six things we can item frame so far." Basket hangs the diamond in a frame on a pillar over a torch.
An open bar
The building is turning into a club. Bottles sit in frames along the wall, chests go behind the bar for food, and disc 13 now hangs in a frame over the jukebox. "Who's gonna be our bartender?" "It's an open bar." There's a short argument over torches sticking out of the corners, settled with "I will appease you." Someone offers an apple for one of the display frames.
Then it's over: "Uh oh, guys, episode over. It's morning." A last look shows Basket in enchanted armor by the chests as the sky lightens, and the end card takes over. No one dies on screen.
