Day eight is the last one of Island Survival, Michael Deering's April 2014 challenge. It opens with "Day 8" and "Piece of Cake" over the base, and the voices know it: "This is the finale." "There's a plane up there. I'm gonna go light the SOS." "You're hallucinating."
Brewing day
Basket spends the morning at the brewing stand by the enchanting table. Water bottles become awkward potions on nether wart, and a fermented spider eye turns them into Potions of Weakness. Sugar makes Potions of Swiftness, and gunpowder turns both into splash potions. In the crafting grid Basket rings an apple with gold ingots and makes a golden apple. The chat shows PsychoSFK earning Hot Topic.
Pigs and potions
Out by the pen the pigs get a lot of attention. "Somebody give me a name tag. I'm naming this pig Lily." Then: "I'm gonna ride it home to victory!" The splash potions start flying, and Basket's own screen picks up Speed and Weakness. "Who's splashin' me with the island tropics Kool-Aid?" By the afternoon a fire burns in a cobblestone pit ringed with iron bars, and Basket stands by it with flint and steel in hand while Scoti_Garbidis, PsychoSFK and Steel_Douglas gather round.
A zombie to cure
At dusk Basket walks the beach past the signal fires. Out on the sand Basket finds a zombie villager and walls it into a narrow cobblestone pen against a tree trunk. A splash potion of weakness goes in, then the golden apple. "I cured a zombie, I'm just waiting for him to finish." "How long does it take villagers to cure?" Basket keeps checking on it. Later the pen is empty. "Did somebody just kill my guy?" The voices blame the iron golem: "I guess the golems somehow got him."
Invisible
Night at the base turns strange. Invisibility potions are going around, and Basket's own screen shows the effect ticking down. "I'm just a floating axe." "Everybody's invisible. I'm invisible. I don't think I like this." The fix is a bucket of milk.
A piece of cake
Milk, it turns out, is also half of a cake. The chicken pit has filled up with eggs again ("Oh dude, there's so many eggs down here"), and sugar cane grows by the pond. By sunrise cakes cover the wooden picnic table and the grass around it, with lostinthefort, Max_Writer, Steel_Douglas and Scoti_Garbidis standing among them. "Whoa, there's a lot of cakes here. Who made all those cakes?" "Basket's been making cake this whole time and hoarding it!"
Off the island
"That's it. We're done, guys." The team poses for a picture, then walks down to the beach where the wooden raft sits at the water's edge, stacked with cakes and a chest. "Hurray, we survived!" "Gilligan's Island, roll out!"
Basket ends the month alive, and this episode's chat shows no deaths. The screen never shows the raft putting out to sea, and no score or judging comes up. The credits roll, and nothing comes after them.
