Day two of Mission Impossible, Michael Deering's January 2014 challenge, picks up right where the first night ended: Basket underground in the team's cave. "We're on day two." lostinthefort's "joined the game" line shows up in the chat early on, so all four of Team MaBaSteeLo are back, and the plan is simple. Some of the team chop trees, some fish, and Basket works on the iron.
Furnaces and buckets
Basket feeds a row of furnaces with iron ore and coal, crafts a stone pickaxe and earns Time to Mine! and Getting an Upgrade in the chat. Then comes the item the team was missing last time: a bucket. "Make at least two," someone says, "one for water as well." Food is still the problem. With passive mobs off limits there's only rotten flesh and whatever the fishing pole brings in, and the talk keeps coming back to it. "I'm down three haunches."
Lava in a bucket
Basket goes looking for lava and finds a big pool of it in the cave, and scoops some into the bucket. Steel_Douglas, still in the Santa suit, works nearby while water pours down a wall. "I have 20 iron after the two buckets." By the end of the water work there are "two places for fish" now.
Iron on
It gets dark up top ("Oh my goodness, it's getting dark"), and the iron gets spent. "What armor should we make?" Basket crafts an iron chestplate and puts it on. Flint changes hands ("I'm gonna throw you the flint"), and Max_Writer drops off the server and comes straight back. Then a portal is glowing purple next to the crafting table and furnaces, and someone on voice asks: "Are you in the Nether?"
Through the portal
Basket steps through with Steel_Douglas, with a warning first: "When you first come out don't go running, because one side there's like three blocks and then lava." Basket sets cobblestone against the lava and looks around a wide red plain dotted with fires. Red mushrooms grow across the lava, and one of them burns up. Hunger catches up. "I'm down a lot of haunches." "There's no food here, man." Basket heads back to the portal.
A mushroom farm
Back home, the team puts down dirt on the cave floor and plants the mushrooms on it. There's an argument about bone meal ("You can't bone meal mushrooms") that nobody settles. The fishing finally pays off: "Four fish. Yay!" "Cook 'em!" and a bone comes up on the line too. Max_Writer gets kicked again and rejoins. Then: "The moon is going down. Sun is coming up. We could call this an episode, guys." Basket ends day two alive in the cave, and no death shows on screen. The end card follows, with nothing after it.
