Life's a Witch: MHC Mission Impossible Episode 8

  • Published on

Day eight of Mission Impossible, Michael Deering's January 2014 challenge, starts with three players in the stronghold and does not stay that way for long. Basket is down in the caves with a diamond pickaxe, chipping at redstone and iron ore, while the talk on voice chat turns to where everyone should sleep: "this little room" or "these jail cells."

The witch

It happens off Basket's screen. "Oh! No! No! How could this happen?" "What happened?" The chat answers it: "lostinthefort was killed by Witch using magic." The explanation comes over voice: "He backed me into an area where I would have had to jump to my death, or just kind of try taking her on." Then, "I'm sorry guys, I let you down." Someone admits, "I guess we should have stuck together." Not long after, the chat shows lostinthefort leaving the game. Hardcore takes a second player from the team, and it is now Basket and Max_Writer.

A rose for Steel Douglas

The mood stays practical. "We have watermelons and pumpkins coming in." There is also a plan to remember the first loss: "I'm gonna go find out where Steel Douglas died and put down a rose for him." Later in the episode the rose turns up again: "that's where Steel Douglas died, and you found the rose that I planted."

Diamonds for an enchanting room

Basket's experience bar reads 30, enough to enchant, so the hunt is on. "I'm anticipating getting diamonds, so if you want to prep a full enchanting setup." Over voice chat the bookshelves get planned ("How many bookcases do we need? Is it 15?"), and soon there's a report: "It's not the most beautiful setup, but it's functional." The diamonds never show. "Can't make an enchanting table." Basket heads for obsidian anyway, "just in case," and finds a wide obsidian floor in a dark cave.

Making the place a home

With two players left, the jail cells look like bedrooms: "I say we can make these into our little rooms." "We each get our own room." String gets counted ("Another 38"), and nine pieces are kept back: "That'll make more bows if we need 'em." Later there's talk of paintings: "I think I used all the paintings up." On the way back through the caves, a zombie comes down a waterfall toward Basket, and the iron sword comes out. Food is still mushroom stew, one bowl at a time: "I gotta remake it every time."

Lag and a wall of furnaces

Back in the stronghold the lag strikes again. "I'm about to get kicked." The chat shows Max_Writer leaving the game and joining again a few seconds later. Then there's a request: "Can you make like ten furnaces or more?" Basket crafts furnaces, and the chat shows "BasketMC has just earned the achievement [Hot Topic]." "Now everything is smelting, hooray." Someone sums up the stronghold: "This place is looking really homey."

A clock at last

Near the end a gift changes hands, and Basket ends up holding a clock. "That means daytime. Actually, it's noon, so we've been off by quite a bit." There's a look ahead too: "Next episode will be our last, I think." Basket ends day eight alive in the stronghold beside the furnaces and chests, with Max_Writer nearby. Nothing plays after the credits.
