The title card reads "Episode 2, Closing Doors," and it's day two of Michael Deering's October challenge: make life good for the villagers of Aerdis Village, in hardcore mode, with no beds and no killing animals. The same three guest voices are back on the call, named in captions as Max_Writer, lostinthefort and Scoti Garbidis, each in their own copy of the seed. Basket starts the day in full iron and finally goes to find the village.
Across the sand
Basket leaves the hillside base, follows a river and crosses a stretch of beach and desert. Someone on the call is close too: "The village is so close I can taste their wheat." Then sandstone houses come into view, with villagers walking between them and a wheat farm by the water. Basket opens a villager's trade screen, eats an apple, sets down a crafting table and has a look inside the houses.
A wall of cobblestone
The plan from day one was a wall, and Basket starts on it right away, crafting cobblestone wall pieces and running them along the farm and the houses. The call agrees on the material. "Six pieces of cobblestone will make you six pieces of wall." "Cobblestone just goes further." Torches go on top as it grows.
The cobblestone runs short, so Basket crafts fences and fence gates to carry the line on. One voice worries the wooden fences "won't connect up with my cobblestone." The answer: "Gates will connect both." Basket also plants oak saplings on dirt blocks around the village. Out past the fence stand a few cactus plants. "Villagers will just walk up and kill themselves on them," someone warns.
Shutting them in
The sun goes down red over the desert. "I have to wait till they run inside because it's night." Basket walks the streets with a stack of cobblestone, checking each house for villagers and blocking up around the doors. "Do I have guys inside this house? I do. Enjoy your stay."
The zombies get in
A skeleton shows up first, then the zombies. Basket fights them in the narrow lanes between houses with a stone sword, and some go down in puffs of smoke. More keep coming, a whole line of them marching across the sand, and zombie villagers are now mixed in with the rest. "They converted him!" "There's all these doors breaking everywhere."
Up, then down
Basket climbs a ladder inside one of the houses to a roof ringed with fences, with a crafting table and a torch up top. Below, zombies crowd against the walls and windows. "I'm really nervous about day three, guys."
A zombie has reached the house at the bottom of the ladder too. Basket puts down cobblestone, then digs straight down through the floor into the dark. "I ran into a house, closed the door, and dug down." A torch finally lights a cave, and the rest of the night goes into mining coal and iron under the village.
Basket ends day two alive and underground, with zombies last seen crowding the streets overhead. How many villagers made it through the night isn't shown. "Sun's up, so I'm out." The game pauses and the end card follows, with no gameplay after it.
