Securing the Perimeter: MHC Save Aerdis Village Episode 3

  • Published on

Day three of Michael Deering's October challenge starts where day two left off: Basket is underground, in the cave below a house in Aerdis Village. The goal hasn't changed. Make life good for the villagers, in hardcore mode, with no beds and no killing animals. Max_Writer, lostinthefort and Scoti Garbidis are back on the call, named in the edited-in captions, each playing their own copy of the seed.

Morning in the streets

Basket mines a little more, crafts a furnace and climbs back up into the village. The night's zombies haven't all gone. One stands inside a house with a library, looking out through the glass, and another waits in a doorway. In the open the sun gets to them, and Basket finishes off the burning ones with a stone sword.

More wall

Then it's back to the job. Basket crafts more cobblestone wall and runs it out across the desert, past the cactus, with torches set along the line. "Okay, let's get all my supplies ready so I can start mass fencing in." In between, Basket uses bone meal on the wheat by the water and harvests and replants part of the farm.

A dungeon next door

Someone on the call has news. "There is a dungeon right next to the village." The call wonders whether that's where the zombies have been coming from. Basket's own description says Max_Writer found it first. Basket digs down into the sand out past the farm and opens up a mossy cobblestone room with a mob spawner in the middle and a chest beside it. Inside the chest: a name tag, a golden apple, a music disc ("C418 - cat") and some redstone. Basket takes the loot and puts a torch down next to the spawner.

Sunset again

The wall is still nowhere near done when the light starts to go. The description calls the whole day a "fruitless attempt to build a wall around Aerdis Village." On the call, the mood is the same: "It's gonna take me nine days just to get this place safe." Basket walks the lanes with cobblestone in hand and blocks up around the doors again as the sun drops at the end of the street.

Down for the night

This time Basket doesn't wait for the zombies. Inside the house, Basket sorts a large chest, crafts sticks, fence gates and tools, then climbs down the ladder shaft into the cave. In the description's words: "When night falls I hide like a wimp and collect more cobblestone." That's the rest of the night: torches, an iron pickaxe and stone, block after block, for more wall. "It's gonna take half the challenge to build, like, the smallest wall possible."

Basket ends day three alive and underground, mining by torchlight. The village isn't shown after sunset, so how many villagers made it through this night isn't shown either. The game pauses, the end card follows, and there's no gameplay after it.
