Carpet Pile of Death: MHC Save Aerdis Village Episode 4

  • Published on

Day four of Michael Deering's October challenge picks up in the cave under Basket's house in Aerdis Village. The goal is still to make life good for the villagers, in hardcore mode, with no beds and no killing animals. Max_Writer, lostinthefort and Scoti Garbidis are on the call again, named in the edited-in captions, each in their own copy of the seed.

Back up top

Basket climbs out of the mine, past the fenced roof and into the lanes, where a few zombies are still hanging around the houses. Then it's daylight in Basket's game, which isn't true for everyone. "It's really weird being a different time of day than you guys." Basket makes a run out past the water to the grassland and back, then gets to work on the wall.

The carpet pile

Someone on the call has a trick: "you can stack carpet on top of carpet" and the zombies "think they can go through it but they can't." Basket pulls out carpet, breaks up a cactus and builds it into a gap in the cobblestone wall, layers of white carpet with a cactus block in front. The call sums it up: "A stack of carpet on top of each other and then a cactus in front of that. So they basically stand on top of the cactus and die." The idea is to give the zombies one way in that they never finish.

Walking the wall

The rest of the day is a slow lap of the village. Basket closes up weak spots, sets torches along the wall and in dark corners, harvests and replants the farm, and chops down trees that have grown up inside the walls. "I keep finding bad spots." The to-do list gets read out: "check the walls, plant trees, remove any cactus in the village." The description says this is the day the wall around Aerdis Village is finally finished.

Doors and roofs at sunset

As the light goes, Basket crafts wooden doors and hangs them on houses, and climbs the ladders up onto the roofs. "I need to get up on top of these buildings and put torches up there." Zombies still turn up inside the wall after dark. "They're still showing up inside the wall," someone says, and the call guesses at a dark spot somewhere. Basket meets them in the lanes with an iron sword.

Out past the wheat, the wall holds the rest back. Zombies and a creeper line up on the far side of it.

Does the trap work?

Basket goes out to check the carpet pile in the dark. Mobs climb the stack and flash red as the cactus hurts them. "My carpet thing is working." Near dawn a voice adds that "a skeleton killed himself in this thing."

Sunrise

When the sky turns, Basket takes an iron pickaxe to the cobblestone over the doorways and lets the villagers out. "I feel pretty confident that my town is secure." Three of them stand in a small fenced yard in the morning sun, another walks the lane by the farm, and Basket opens the trade screen with one of them.

"I think this is the end of the episode, it is now sunrise." Basket ends day four alive, with the villagers out in the open again. The end card follows, and there's no gameplay after it.
