More Houses: MHC Save Aerdis Village Episode 8

  • Published on

Day eight of Michael Deering's October challenge, where the job is to make life good for the villagers of Aerdis Village in hardcore mode. Max_Writer and lostinthefort are on the call again, named in the edited-in captions. Basket starts the day with a question about the villagers: "I wonder if I can convince these villagers to populate. Maybe they forgot that I built them a bunch of houses." By the end of the night there's a diamond, and the village has music.

Sheep from the lake

The first trip goes the other way, out past the wall and down to a lake. Basket walks the shore with wheat in hand, and three sheep follow, swimming across the water to the sand. Back at the wall, Basket breaks a gap with the pickaxe, walks the sheep through, and closes it again with cobblestone wall. The sheep end up standing by one of the houses inside.

Two more houses

Then it's back to sandstone. "I'm gonna try and build two more this day. I have enough resources." Basket digs out the sand, sets floors, and raises smooth sandstone walls between the houses already standing, with a bit of counting along the way. "Seven by ten is seventy blocks, right?"

Glass panes go in the windows, and a crafting table turns oak into planks and planks into doors. By evening the lane between the houses has wooden doors down both sides.

The villagers aren't using the new places the way Basket hoped. In one house, two of them are already inside. "Oh, there's two of them in my house."

A plan for music

As the light goes, Basket sorts the big chest and has an idea. "I was thinking if I can get a diamond that I could make him a jukebox." Someone on the call likes it: "That would be the ultimate improvement."

So the night goes underground. Basket smelts some charcoal "just so I don't run out," then climbs down the ladder shaft into the caves below the village.

Caving for a diamond

The caves are busy. A skeleton and a zombie come at Basket in the first tunnels, and Basket fights them off with the iron sword. Further on, a creeper walks up out of the dark, close enough to fill the screen.

Basket keeps digging and comes out by an underground stream. Right at the edge of the water there's diamond ore. The pickaxe takes it, and a diamond turns up in the inventory a few seconds later. Before heading back, Basket also fills the bucket from a pool of lava nearby.

A jukebox for Aerdis

Back up the ladder, the diamond goes straight into the crafting table. "Alright, jukebox." Basket sets it down in a smooth sandstone house with a stone counter, and the villagers pack in around it within seconds.

The rest of the night is small jobs around the village: checking chests and walking the lanes and the farms. As the sky turns red, a zombie shows up by the cactus gate and takes a hit from the sword. Basket chops a couple of trees inside the walls and plants oak saplings in their place.

The sun comes up, and Basket ends day eight alive. "We'll be back for the last episode next time." The end card follows, and there's no gameplay after it.
