Day eight of Michael Deering's May challenge starts with a progress report on the call. "We have two turrets on our perimeter fencing and we're continuing on and building and building and building." And Basket "is mining, he is a machine."
A new quarry
The day opens on top of the wall, which now runs between the houses and the farms. Basket has kept a little of the diamond pickaxe back on purpose, "in case we decide we want to make a portal," so there's still something that can mine obsidian for the Nether.
The old quarry has a problem. "I was running into the caves below." So the plan is wood first, then "a new quarry underneath one of the other towers." Basket heads into a tangle of trees by the village with a stone axe. "We will not want for wood." Then, a few logs in: "Man, that's going to take forever to chop down. Maybe I'll just get to what I need and leave all the stuff hanging here."
Fixing the first tower
Rain starts falling, and something about the first tower looks wrong. "Something seems weird here." It was "the first one that was built with the wall," before the inner wall went in, and Basket pulls a few blocks out to line it up. "There we go, all better."
Then it's down a ladder into the new quarry with the iron pickaxe. This one is "far enough away from the other one that I won't run into the same cave structure." The call drifts off to TV shows for a long stretch while the cobblestone piles up. "Oh, I think I went a little high."
Lightning in the village
Night comes with a thunderstorm. Basket climbs out, walks the village in the rain and puts iron ore in a furnace. "There are a couple Enderman particles all over the place."
"Whoa. Did you hear that?" "I actually saw it hit a fence." A fire is burning in the grass by the fence along the wall path, and "there's another fire over there."
FriarNurgle passes through the village in the downpour while Basket sorts the inventory. "I'm going to make some more picks." Then it's back down the shaft.
Four towers
In the storm it's hard to tell when the sun is up. Word on the call is that the fourth tower is almost done. Basket throws down torches, places ladders and climbs out of the quarry. A warning comes over the call: "There's a creeper and like four zombies that just poured through there." Then: "They can't get in."
Basket climbs to the top of the last tower and the two stand there in the rain. "It is definitely daytime. I'm assuming." The weather, someone on the call reckons, is the same for every entrant: "It's based on the seed."
The wrap-up on the call: "We are done with our four turrets pretty much," and "it is fortified." Both players are alive at the end of day eight, and no villager death shows on screen. The end card follows, with no gameplay after it.
