Day two goes on in The Zero Chunk Challenge, Michael Deering's March 2015 Minecraft Hardcore Challenge, where Basket, technascribe, MomofMiners and Frank_n_Honest have to live inside one chunk and can only place blocks there. The episode opens with the team in the underground pool, and it ends somewhere much hotter.
Who took the iron?
Down at the cave furnace there is a small mix-up over what was cooking. "Oh, you grabbed it." "No, I grabbed a gold, I was cooking gold." "There's iron in the chest." "I wanted achievement for getting iron from the furnace." It sorts itself out, and Basket picks up the Acquire Hardware and DIAMONDS! achievements right there by the furnace and crafting table. Then it's back to mining, past lava pools and the odd zombie, with iron ore going into the inventory.
Talk from topside
Basket stays underground, but the call carries news from the surface. "It's raining." "Fishing does go faster in the rain, doesn't it?" There's talk of an enchanted book from the fishing, which only helps once there's an enchanting table: "We have to get a bunch of iron, but we could do it." Somebody has sugar cane for paper, somebody is growing a pumpkin, and somebody wants a chicken in the water "so it'll lay eggs." By the end of it, "pumpkin pie, awesome."
Obsidian from a lava lake
Basket checks the achievements list, where We Need to Go Deeper, "Build a portal to the Nether," is still waiting. Down in the cave, water has run over the edge of a lava lake and left obsidian behind. With a diamond pickaxe in hand, Basket mines it out. Basket also hauls lava in buckets over to the water, a bucket at a time. Someone keeps count: "Okay, I have four obsidian."
Lighting the portal
The frame goes up in the cave with a torch over it. Basket stands at it with flint and steel, and a moment later it glows purple. "I'm gonna pop my head into the Nether." The others want in too, and directions go out: "Come down the stairs, you're gonna see the furnace, take a left." The caves are busy with zombies on the way. "Zombie behind you!" MomofMiners turns up in the tunnels, and then everyone steps through.
The rules come along
The Nether loads, Basket gets We Need to Go Deeper, and MomofMiners, Frank_n_Honest and technascribe are all standing by the portal on the other side. The zero chunk rule doesn't stay home. "We can't even build, like, anywhere." "Because we can dig around, but we can't place any blocks." So the plan is to tunnel. "If we angle up a little bit... we may be able to get in that surface." "This is really tough." "I'm claustrophobic." Somewhere out in the dark, "I hear a ghast."
A room to say goodbye
Basket digs a long hallway through the netherrack, and Frank_n_Honest comes along it. One voice thinks it can hear a fortress, but none shows up on screen. As the day runs out, someone offers a spot to wrap up: "I have a little room here if you guys want to move back into a room to say goodbye." The four squeeze into it. "All right, well, a little tight."
All four players are alive at the end of the day, with no death on screen. The end credits follow, with no gameplay after them.
