The second GopherCraft SMP livestream opens on a pair of signs: "GopherCraft Livestream with BasketMC 11/10/13" and "with special guest Max_Writer." "Hey everybody, Basket here," the stream begins, and over almost three hours the two of them raid the Nether for blaze rods, tidy up spawn and start the walls of the giant tower on Mount BasketMC.
Gearing up
The first stop is the zombie spawner from the last stream, now a working room. A voice explains the routine: "I spend all day with the timer coming back every 20 minutes to enchant more stuff." The tooltips show what that has paid for: a Working Pick with Efficiency IV and Unbreaking III, a bow called Pew Pew Lasers with Infinity I, Power V and Unbreaking III, and a large chest stacked with gold armor. An offer of chainmail is turned down in favor of plain iron. Basket grabs potions of fire resistance, a stack of stone brick for patching, and heads for the shared nether hub.
Blazes and a blaze spawner
The path to the fortress is barely marked, and the trip is a long walk over netherrack, lava and ghasts with the two of them losing each other more than once. A sword named Basket's Looter (Knockback II, Unbreaking III, Looting III) does most of the work once the blazes show up. "I need one of those desperately," a voice says at the first rod.
Next to the fortress they dig out a room around a blaze spawner and trim it with stone bricks, because "the blazes keep escaping." The two of them hold the room while the fire resistance ticks down and potions get passed around. By the end of it a voice counts "seven blaze rods." On the way out they grab nether wart and soul sand and follow a trail of torches back.
Chores at spawn
Back in the Overworld, the soul sand goes into the nether wart farm at spawn, which gets four new blocks. The community chest gets sorted into a smaller one for things of real value. After dark the target is endermen, for their pearls, but only one pearl turns up. Someone had also left a creeper hole in a road and a broken fence gate outside the spawn walls. "I'm gonna fix it," and the dirt and fence go back in.
Books from below the mountain
Then the pair head for Mount BasketMC. Down the ladders by the waterfall, near a branch mine, sits a library full of bookshelves. One voice asks how many books the other needs; the answer is 45, enough for an enchanting setup. A stack of books changes hands.
The tower grows down
Up top, the summit is now a flat stone brick disc with a nether portal, beds, chests and bookshelves. A voice lays out the plan. People will arrive through this portal, walk to the center and cross over to a smaller tower standing above the end portal, then drop down. A 9 by 9 hole in the middle will hold a staircase that spirals around a center pillar, with a beacon going up the middle. Later floors get a two-block gap between them for redstone and hoppers, then a storage floor and farms below.
The walls go down from the edge of the disc instead of up, and Basket digs into the mountain to make room. On the far side the wall angles in where the mountain overhangs. On voice, someone lays down the tower's footprint at the bottom "because I feel safer doing that," counting out the 45-wide ring by hand. In chat pikerize joins and later steps away for a bit. Endermen do turn up around the mountain later, and a voice reports "four ender pearls."
Plans for the valley
The ideas keep coming as the walls go up: a front gate with a bridge over to the potato field, maybe a whole city of villagers in the valley, a second zombie spawner turned into a villager breeder, and the dirt-filled riverbed dug back out into a moat. A viewer suggests running lava behind glass down the middle. The worry on voice is that lava would block the beacon, so it might go off to one side or the lava could run behind iron bars.
Near the end one voice signs off and heads back through the nether stairwell. The stream closes on the summit at dusk, with Basket checking the inventory beside the nether wart patch. "I think this tower is turning out really well."
