Brewing Supplies: GopherCraft SMP S1 Episode 2

  • Published on

Episode 2 opens with a few quick clips under the "GopherCraft SMP" title, then a card reading "Episode 2, Brewing Supplies" with "Special Guest: Steel_Douglas." The whole episode stays in the Nether. Basket and Steel_Douglas are working through a nether fortress, after blaze rods and nether wart.

Glowstone and blazes

Glowstone lights parts of the halls ("that's cool, there's freakin' glowstone right there"), and Steel_Douglas walks the corridors with a diamond pickaxe. There is a blaze spawner around the corner, and the blazes come out to meet them. A voice plans to come back some day with a Looting sword "and try and get some skulls for a beacon."

A blaze goes down, chat reads "BasketMC has just earned the achievement [Into Fire]," and a moment later Basket's screen is in flames. It passes fast. The chain leggings in Basket's inventory carry Fire Protection II, and a voice explains, "I have, uh, fire resist in my pants." In chat, optimus1971 joins the game, pikerize says "Hey" and optimus1971 answers "yo."

Dead ends and a lava river

The plan is to check every branch. They light up dark corners and block off a spot "where these three torches are," another blaze spawn. One hall runs into a river of lava. "How do you want to handle this lava?" "Carefully." Basket drops netherrack into it while a voice keeps watch for blazes, and then a ghast shows up. "Run!"

The rest of the fortress is one dead end after another. "Dead end. Yep, dead end. Okay, dead end." There is no nether wart anywhere. A voice hopes "there's actually another wart on the server," and the answer is grim: "we have to find a whole other fortress, that would suck." They do have blaze rods, "but that doesn't really help us all the way."

A second fortress

Out on the open netherrack, ghasts drift over the lava falls and shoot fireballs. Then a voice cuts in: "Wait a minute, I found another fortress." They climb up the side to reach it, and a ghast comes up right behind them. "Did you get him?" "I got him." "With arrow or with return to sender?" "Arrow." After that, a voice is out of arrows.

A voice spots "a whole bunch of wither guys, holy cow," and the plan is to lure them "back to our little fortification" and fight them there. "So glad they're three tall." It still gets close. "I've got three hearts left."

Nether wart at last

A stairwell leads down, and at the bottom sits a patch of nether wart growing on soul sand. A voice replants it "so if anybody else comes, you know, they got something." Another warns of a skeleton and a couple of wither skeletons at the back of the stairwell, but the wart is found.

Splitting the loot

Next come the chests. They open them on a count of three and split everything even. The tooltips show gold ingots, diamonds, iron ingots, flint and steel and a saddle; there were "four total" diamonds in one chest, and a voice is "very interested" in a set of gold horse armor. For all the blazes, the blaze rod count is low. "I only have one." "Yeah, me too."

With full pockets, nobody wants to risk it. "Now I definitely can't die whatsoever." "No dying allowed." They decide to head home with what they have, make potions first, and come back to take the fortress on more easily. "Well, thanks for the adventure." The last shot looks out over the open Nether before the end card.
