Season 9 starts on a map where the water has been turned into lava and the lava into obsidian. Basket ran this one and built its command blocks, and plays for The Librarians, the purple team, with TChels and xmods13. The title card reads "Episode 1, You Found a What?" over a countdown.
Fire from the first second
The countdown ends and chat fills with achievement lines from every team: Getting Wood, Taking Inventory. Sayulily asks in chat, "Gentleman's rule? No PvP first day?" A voice on the team explains why the trees are already burning: "the fire tick was turned off until the game started, so there's gonna be lots of fire." A warning goes out that any lava next to a forest will probably burn the forest down. Basket cuts down trees while there are still trees to cut.
Sugar cane at the lava's edge
Where a river would be, there's a river of lava. Sugar cane still grows on the sand along its edge, and Basket picks three stalks, staying careful next to the lava.
The team had already been told why it matters: sugar cane next to lava can break and disappear, and villages can burn down, so grab either one on sight. Basket heads off alone after that, killing pigs and sheep through the forest.
If nobody dies
Basket admits running an event is "slightly stressful," since redstone doesn't always work. This season's border shrinks only after a death, and Basket points out the catch: "if nobody dies, then the border never shrinks, so I might have to manually do it at some point." That wasn't covered in the intro, so the hope is it never comes to that.
Digging in at dusk
At sundown Basket finds the team again on top of a hill. A hole is already started, with a furnace and a crafting table next to it, and xmods13 is there working.
The team takes the crafting table down with them and digs. Iron turns up early, but coal doesn't, so the furnaces sit cold for a while. Once coal is found, raw pork and mutton go in, and Basket smelts iron and makes an iron pickaxe.
You found a what?
Then a voice comes over: "I found a stronghold." The team decides to take a look. There are chests in a stronghold, but also "a bunch of bad guys." Someone warns about silverfish hiding in the blocks: weak mobs, but in UHC a lot of them at once can cause problems. Basket staircases down and breaks into mossy stone brick halls.
Basket places torches along the corridors and finds bookshelves behind a curtain of cobwebs. "Oh, library."
Someone reports two chests. Then the server posts "End of Day 1. Players remaining:" and lists all fifteen players, BasketMC included. "This is the end of the episode, and it worked," Basket says. Nobody has died, so the border hasn't moved yet. The episode ends with Basket alive in the stronghold, then the end credits.
