Fal Tavern: Breaking Ground: Team B.S. Server Episode 8

  • Published on

Basketopia has roads marked out in torches, and now it needs buildings. Before touching the server, Basket opens a creative world to work out a look. Most timber-frame designs online lean on texture packs, and Basket doesn't use one. So the answer here is white bone block walls between dark spruce beams.

A wall in the desert

The test wall goes up on flat sand: bone blocks, spruce posts, a wide window with shutters on either side. The bone blocks are directional, and a few end up "pointing the wrong way" before they get fixed. Basket tries a five-wide door section, then three wide, and plays with a sea lantern tucked into a bush to light the street without a row of torches. A viewer suggests stairs above the door, and Basket builds that too.

Not every building will match. "I might not have all the buildings be the exact same format." Basket takes a screenshot of the version that works and heads for the server.

Two buildings and a bridge

Since the last stream, a new road runs through this part of the island. Next to it sits a sign: "Future site of Fal Inn." The plan is a tavern on one side of a small road and an inn on the other, joined by a bridge at the third floor, where the rooms will be. Basket says the name is "actually from John."

There's one problem: bone blocks. Basket has some on hand but not nearly enough, and has "put in a request to my supplier." The chat log shows johnfal_92 "getting bones for basket," and later a "vine delivery."

The corner entrance

The tavern starts at its corner, with spruce double doors facing two streets and the main floor raised a step above the road. Then the fiddling starts. Viewers weigh in on almost every block. Cobblestone steps replace the spruce ones. A spruce fence post holding up the corner gets a cobblestone block under it. Inverted spruce stairs go in above the doors, come out, and go back in. The steps move back a block, then get rebuilt. Some cobblestone turns mossy.

Basket explains why it matters so much. "The nether portal is going to be moved into the basement over here," so people will be in and out of this building all the time, and it has to work and look good.

Visitors in the rain

The weather turns to rain while the walls go up. In the chat log, "pikerize joined the game," followed by "<pikerize> hi" and a greeting from johnfal_92. Later "kotaotan joined the game" too. Partway through, johnfal_92 is "just leaving pikerize at the skelly grinder" and heading for Basketopia. Toward the end pikerize asks "How do I set myself afk?" and johnfal_92 answers "walk away."

Walls, every six blocks

The walls go up with spruce beams every six blocks, and four in the middle of the back wall where the doors don't line up. The upper floor will stick out one block past the ground floor. Inside, Basket lays out the plan: an open bar area with tables, a balcony overhanging it, the kitchen and bar, stairs up to the floors above and down to a wine cellar with another portal.

The stream ends with the bone blocks almost gone. Basket wants a way to gather bones while away from the keyboard, maybe at a skeleton spawner. The ground-floor walls are mostly up, and there is no roof yet. The video ends on the credits, with no gameplay after them.
