Fal Tavern 4th Floor: Team B.S. Server Episode 11

  • Published on

Fal Tavern got its roof last time, a steep dark oak one with a lot of empty space inside. This stream is about that space. First, though, Basket hasn't been to town in a while and wants to see what everyone else has built.

A walk through town

There's plenty new. Poppies have sprung up, there's a farm, and a new bridge crosses the water. One building holds potions in item frames with signs, and a secret room behind it with the workings written out on signs. "Good job at documenting your code." Basket's own house is exactly as it was left.

The desert town seen from a sandy rise: sandstone buildings, a fenced crop farm beside a river, torches and cactus in the foreground

Over in the DMZ there's a park with trees under glass, and Basket can't work out what it's for until a sign explains it. It's a tree farm you can also sit in. "Once I saw the sign, it made sense."

A question in the nether hub

On the way back through the nether, johnfal_92 asks in chat, "what do you think about a bulk community storage area here in the nether hub?" Basket asks back, "bulk like high volume?" The two of them talk it over against the community storage that already sits in the DMZ. Around the same time, "kotaotan joined the game."

Windows in the roof

Back on the tavern roof, Basket wants window bays, "whatever they're called," sticking out of the slope. The first one goes in five wide, with dark oak along the bottom and glass in the middle. Copying it to the other side is trickier, because that side would run into the rest of the roof, so the second one sits higher up. Basket doesn't want an attic there, so that side stays open to the peak.

Looking up at Fal Tavern from the street: white bone block walls in a dark spruce frame, rows of windows, and a steep dark oak roof with a dormer window near the peak

Then the top wall needs windows. Basket builds one version with wide windows, then a second with vertical supports and smaller windows, which a viewer suggests. With both up side by side, it's easy to pick. "I think I like this better. It's more structurally sound." Spruce logs go in under the roof wherever the beams are.

A floor for long tables

The space under the roof becomes the tavern's fourth floor, a dining room. The seats are oak stairs and the tables are dark oak, like downstairs. The big table grows to three wide, like a banquet table, with two chairs at the ends. Viewers suggest doors on the backs of the chairs. Basket tries spruce, then oak, and pulls them both out. A fence railing goes along the open side.

The lighting is a problem. Basket checks light levels with the debug screen and finds dark spots in the middle of the room. Torches go in for now, "cheaty lighting," with chandeliers maybe later.

A painting with a way out

Basket wants secret exits. Trapdoors in the roof space lead into a hidden hallway behind the walls, and from there down into a room below. The opening behind the head table needs covering with a painting, and a painting needs wool. In chat Basket is "thanking sharp for the wool," and sharpedge_ answers "np."

Paintings come out random, so Basket keeps placing and breaking them until one the right size turns up. The story goes like this: the important people sit at the head table, they hear trouble coming, and they slip through the painting to safety.

Meanwhile the chat shows others busy at the skeleton farm. pikerize is "Just checking the skeleton spawner," johnfal_92 has "hooked up the lava overflow protection," and sharpedge_ reports "one of the skellys got out." pikerize answers, "They get out alot."

The fourth floor has its tables, its windows and its secret door. The decorations, the proper lighting and the rest of the tavern are still to come. The video ends on the credits, with no gameplay after them.
