Fal Inn Secret Roof Door: Team B.S. Server Episode 12

  • Published on

The last stream ended with a secret door behind a painting in Fal Tavern. Since then, Basket has put a roof on the Fal Inn next door, added some of its walls, and built the little bridges that cross between the two buildings. The space under the new roof belongs to the innkeeper, and Basket wants a way out of it onto the roofs.

Rooms for the innkeeper

This roof is smaller than the tavern's, so there's less room for windows sticking out of it. Basket blocks out the owner's living area first. A skylight ends up two by two, "because I can't really angle it like I do the other stuff." The outside of one wall gets bone blocks all the way up so it looks symmetrical from the street, and a false wall with a secret door leads in from the bridge side. Basket counts nineteen blocks along one wall, tries dividing it every way, and settles on threes. "I'm glad I did all that math."

A light level check shows the room only drops to 8, which is fine. One corner looks like a spot for the bed. The window on the other side might copy the one already built, though the view there is better, so it may change.

The problem with trapdoors

The way onto the roof starts as a ladder and a hole. Trapdoors would cover it easily, but they don't match the dark oak roof. "I wish trapdoors were not that same color." The new plan: bury three sticky pistons in the wall and pull the roof blocks in and out of the way, with a button that looks like part of the design.

An observer, briefly

A viewer says the observer block can see through other blocks. Basket has never built one, so it's off to a test world with a note block and some redstone to work out which face does what. "I think I won't use the observer block."

Back on the server, the redstone needs supplies: iron, cobblestone and redstone for the pistons, smooth stone for repeaters, and comparators for a hopper T flip-flop. Basket has no quartz on hand, so it's a quick trip to the nether to mine some with a fortune pickaxe.

A Jeb door without a video

Basket wants to build "essentially a Jeb door," from memory. The first try doesn't work, because the pistons let go before the blocks are out of the way. Delays get moved around until one line fires right away and the others wait. Then Basket wants a step pushed up from below so there's something to climb on, and that means taking over part of the room underneath and adding a torch to flip the signal.

The last fix is timing. One line's repeaters add up to four, and the other's to one less, because that line also runs through the torch that inverts the signal. Basket pulls the lever. "Okay, amazing." The roof opens and a block rises to step on. From up there Basket plans entrances and exits "all over the place" across the rooftops. A second pair of sticky pistons closes a false wall on the inside at the same time, which might become a bookshelf. "Turn out to be a redstone stream."

The hatch works off a lever. The T flip-flop and the outside button aren't in yet, and Basket leaves it open for now to avoid getting locked out. The innkeeper's rooms are still mostly empty. The video ends on the credits, with no gameplay after them.
