3 Empty Shops: Team B.S. Server Episode 15

  • Published on

Last time Basket started a row of small buildings along a back alley, walls only. This stream is about finishing their shells: roofs, attics, stairs and lights. Nothing goes inside them yet. "Right now it's just gonna be a bunch of undecorated insides of buildings."

A roof that drives Basket crazy

The first roof goes up in dark oak with a small window near the peak. The plan is a tiny attic, and roof access doesn't have to be in every building; a ladder in the alley could do it. But the roof hangs out over one side and not the other, and the odd count bothers Basket. "It really is driving me crazy." Down it comes, rebuilt a little skinnier so it's even, with an even smaller window.

That leaves the question of the block at the top of the gable: white or spruce? A viewer votes white, and Basket agrees, because it keeps "the square with the hole in the middle" that the rest of the building uses.

Stepping down the hill

The second roof copies the first, a little lower, so the row starts to step down the slope. Basket had hoped people could jump from roof to roof, and now isn't so sure they can. Inside, a ladder leads up into the attic, a light level check turns up a spot at 7 that gets another torch, and stairs and a spruce door go in. A door out to the alley was already there from last time. "So that works out perfect."

The third building runs longer than the others. Its second floor windows end up mostly hidden under the next roof, which Basket decides is still enough to keep them as windows. The stairs take a couple of tries. "That's not right. Try again."

The alley

Cobblestone goes along the bottom of the buildings as a rough foundation, since each one is partly propping up its neighbor. The alley itself gets a gravel path, with mossy cobblestone at the low end. "This is about how much space you have in between the buildings." A strip of grass stays open after a viewer suggests a garden, and Basket leaves it free for one.

The plan for these three is shops on the ground floor, someone living upstairs, and storage in the attic. This is the commercial side of town, with the tavern, the inn and a few shops. Basket admits to being better at outsides than insides, and might ask other players to fit them out.

Beacons and a bookstore

Basket heads down to the mining area under the island and switches a beacon from Jump Boost to Speed. With Haste kept for mining, Speed II and Haste II both show up in the effects list. A nether portal shortcut leads back up top, where another beacon beam rises beside a chest in the snow.

The stream ends chopping spruce trees to clear the next intersection. That corner is where the bookstore will go, the one with a secret bookshelf and a hidden room around the nether portal, so the portal isn't just sitting in the middle of the street. Basket also talks through villagers for the town: one behind the inn's raised desk and one behind the tavern's bar, only one each so they don't breed, workers in the shops later, librarians at desks in a library, and maybe "an evil cleric" down by the portal. None of that is built yet. The video ends on the credits, with no gameplay after them.
