Library Roof: Team B.S. Server Episode 17

  • Published on

Last time the library got its walls, a balcony and a corner saved for a secret door. This stream fills in the layout and puts a roof on it. There are still no real books, so dirt keeps standing in for bookshelves. "Just pretend like those are books."

Railings and a box for the librarian

Upstairs, spruce fences go around the stairwell so nobody walks off the edge. "We don't want them to fall off and sue us." There's not much room left by the railing, but Basket thinks a couple of small tables could fit so people can sit and read.

Downstairs, the windows get spaced every four blocks after some counting to make the walls come out even. The librarian's spot ends up in a corner, raised a little, with a low ceiling of stairs over it so the villager can't wander off. Basket tests it and can't get in either. "Which is fine."

Shelves you can walk between

The ground floor gets rows of shelves with walkways between them. A viewer points out that bookshelf blocks show books on both sides, so two rows can go back to back, and Basket tries it. The rows also get taller, right up to the ceiling, which means there's no gap on top to light. "People are tall, they can reach up there." A viewer asks whether a baby zombie can spawn in a one-block gap. Basket doesn't think so, since a spawnable space needs to be two high.

Partway through, Basket pulls out a map for a viewer and walks through the plan: the tavern, the inn, the empty shops, this library, a big castle up the hill, more villages and a farming area, city walls around all of it, and bridges and ports beyond. "It's a big project." Glass and doors go in after that, and a ladder up to where an attic might go.

Opening up the ceiling

The attic doesn't have a clear use, so Basket changes plans. Most of the upper floor will open up into the roof instead, with half slabs on top of the bookcases to stop mobs spawning there and maybe a balcony with more books. A viewer suggests hanging lights, and Basket likes the idea of a wooden chandelier.

The roof goes on in dark oak stairs, hanging out a little past the walls, built against dirt that comes out afterward. Basket runs low on stairs, crafts more, and finishes it without going back down. Dormers are planned for later. Even small ones, Basket says, add light and break up a big roof.

A roof that blocks the view

Then Basket goes outside to look at it, and it's big. The library is wider than the buildings around it, so the same pitch makes a much taller roof.

Some windows next door now look straight at it. Basket walks through the rooms under the Fal Inn roof and out the secret roof door to check the view from up there. A gentler slope using slabs and stairs would help, but it would mean tearing out a roof that took most of the stream, and Basket isn't sure it would look as good. "Okay, well, all right, we're gonna leave it the way it is." The dormers should keep it from being a plain wall.

The library still needs its shelves, the dormers, lighting and the work around the road at the corner, where there might be a balcony or a second entrance. Basket guesses that's a few more streams. The video ends on the credits, with no gameplay after them.
