Fixing Slime Farm: Team B.S. Server Episode 57

  • Published on

Episode 57 starts with the slime farm on Iron Island, which still doesn't work. The slimes land in the water but don't drown. Basket has a new plan: get rid of the water and use magma blocks, with hopper minecarts underneath to catch the drops. Step one is a trip to the Nether, because there isn't a single magma block in storage.

Magma from the Nether

Basket heads up and out through the portal and digs around near the lava, where magma tends to show up. Quartz gets picked up on the way. The first magma block breaks almost instantly. "Oh, breaks it really quick, okay, note to self." A few pockets later there's plenty. The idea came from a comment on one of the videos, and Basket checks the comments back at base to credit the right person. Magma won't help with the witches in the mob farm pits, since they have fire resistance, but slimes don't.

Chest carts, hopper carts and a pile-up

The new design goes in one corner first: magma blocks on top, a layer of rail under them, and hopper minecarts parked on the rail. Each cubby is four by four, so that's 16 carts per corner. Basket crafts a stack of rail and a batch of carts, then notices they're the wrong ones. "I got so used to the rail kart system, that I made a bunch of chest minecarts."

Fixed and back down, the real problem shows up. On normal rail the carts turn on the curves, slide into each other and pile up in a heap. Basket worries about the noise. Powered rail turns out to be the answer, since it keeps the track straight. "Okay, good. So power rail, that's the answer."

A slower pick

The iron bars come out, and Basket fills gaps with sand so the shovel doesn't take out the blocks around it. The enchanted pickaxe keeps breaking things it shouldn't, so Basket makes a plain iron pickaxe to work slower. That earns the advancement on screen: "Isn't It Iron Pick." Getting to the chests later will take ender pearls, feather falling boots and respiration, because anyone who drops into a cubby is stuck there.

With rain switched off, Basket goes up top to watch. A slime turns up on the floor. "Well I think it works." The open question is the big slimes, which might be too big to fall in. "I still don't know what the solution is yet." Only one corner is a working slime farm, so Basket debates copying the design to the other three corners just for looks, but then someone might throw items into the wrong one and lose them.

White glass in the golem farm

The last project picks up where the previous stream left off: white glass and sea lanterns in the iron golem farm. Basket blocks off one side so the golems stay out of the way, switches to Silk Touch, and works down the wall in a one, two, three pattern. Signs hold the water flows in place, and two water buckets make an infinite spring. "If these signs break then I lose all my lava. But they didn't."

Then a golem count. "One, two. I expected to see more than that." The other side has none at all. Basket can't tell why it sometimes stops working, so that side gets watched for now.

The Nether hole works

Before signing off, Basket points out something new: the Nether item mover works now. Items dropped in the hole in the Nether, or fed into it by a hopper chain, end up here, get sucked in and go up to the sorter. The stream ends there, then the credits, with no gameplay after them.
