Basket Castle Barracks: Team B.S. Server Episode 70

  • Published on

Episode 70 picks up at Basket Castle, next to the gatehouse. The new building on the edge of the grounds from last time now has a name: "this is gonna be probably the barracks." Its first floor lines up with the top of the placeholder battlements, and the top of the wall will lead through a door into that floor. From there the barracks will grow both up and down. Last stream ended when the bricks ran out, so the first job is to build the wall up one more row.

Plain bricks first

Basket lays plain stone bricks first and plans to come back for the cracked ones. A floor goes across the top, and the torches left out "as a just-in-case" come out as it fills in. The inside isn't planned yet, "besides just like a lot of beds I guess, and then like an armory area." On the hill side of the building the ground is higher, so the way onto the top of the wall there will be one, two or maybe three floors up.

Arrow slits you can barely see

Next come arrow slits made from stairs, aimed down so defenders can shoot at the ground outside. A version in the corner turns out better, since it "gives them more space to shoot at people." Then Basket goes down to look at it from below. "You can hardly even tell that it's there." From the outside it just looks like a pattern in the wall, until someone starts shooting from it.

The slits go in two solid blocks apart, in matching sets on each side. A hallway might run around the outside of the floor so defenders can reach them, with rooms in the middle.

Room for bunks and secret ladders

Inside, Basket marks out the wall around the outside hallway, then double doors or maybe an open archway into the middle. The rooms should fit beds two wide, with a little space in front for a chest. Secret doors are on the list too. A sewer system will run through here, with entrances in different spots, and nearby buildings might get hidden ways in. Two gaps in one wall get punched all the way through, so Basket can remember them later as spots for hidden ladders. There's no furniture in any of these buildings yet. "I'll come back to that."

The second floor

One floor up, Basket repeats the layout: arrow slits in the same places, an archway like the one below, and a filled-in corner that will become "some sort of hidden passageway." Some mossy bricks go into a corner of the outside wall. Getting the stairs to face the right way takes a few tries. Blocks run low more than once ("I'm going through blocks really fast"), so some of the walls are temporary blocks for now. The ceiling gets torches on top so mobs can't spawn there. The game is survival, and the only shortcut is a bed command that skips the night when it gets dark.

A gentle staircase

Near the end Basket settles where the real top of the wall will be: the wall gets one floor taller here, then slopes up along the hill. That top is the entrance to this floor. The stairs up to it are two wide and made of slabs, so they climb slowly, with a flat landing where people can step off. Basket clears out the extra stairs and leaves room above the landings to walk through. The wall top outside will rise the same way, a slab at a time, rather than a steep 45-degree climb.

"That's the start of the barracks." The other floors get finished next time. The episode ends on the credits, with no gameplay after them.
