Basket Castle Northeast Tower: Team B.S. Server Episode 114

  • Published on

Episode 114 opens with a quick tour of Basket Castle: the battlements across the wall, the windows and paths inside it, and the other tower. Then it's up to the northeast tower, which is "just a hollow shell right now," with battlements on top and nothing inside. Basket is the only player in the game; the in-game chat shows only the server's sleep and weather lines and its autosave messages.

A roof with a skylight

The plan is another sloped roof like the one on the other tower, with a skylight in the middle. The roof is kept small, set in from the wall, so there's space around the whole thing. It goes in as dark oak, and the middle leaves room for a two-by-two pane of glass so "a bunch of the levels will be able to be lit naturally from the sun." Snow might pile up on the glass one day, but Basket thinks the light will still get through. One spot with a lower slab would leave the glass sticking up, so the whole roof gets torn out and redone as stairs. There's no glass on hand yet, so that part waits.

Building the inside backwards

Basket points out this tower is going up in a different order from the rest of the castle: shell first, inside afterward. Under the roof comes a balcony level that looks down onto the main floor of a meeting hall. Birch stairs go down at a slow slope, and a viewer's idea to run them along the outside wall leads to wider landings so you can get around. That makes three levels: balcony, balcony, then the main floor. Some birch falls while Basket works, and a ladder makes it easy to climb back up after collecting it.

Moving the stairs for the windows

Then the windows. With the stairs where they are, one wall's windows would be half blocked, so the stairs shift over by one block, and then the other side gets the same treatment. "Do a lot of building and rebuilding, but that's alright." The windows are only holes cut in the wall for now, and not every opening gets one: "I think that might look actually better from the outside."

A banquet hall

The main floor sits level with an opening onto the battlements, so that doorway leads "straight into the main room." Basket fills in the whole floor, then takes out a path around the outside, which gives the room more height. "It'll be good for like a big banquet hall kind of thing." There won't be windows on the battlement side, since that "conflicts too much with the battlements." The lower balcony stays three wide and the upper one goes four wide, so each sits a bit further out over the one below.

Railings and light

The balconies get dark oak fence railings, which also make a spot for torches. Basket checks the light levels with the debug screen, fixes a dark patch, and puts torches in the corners of the levels, which is "less torch spammy." A viewer spots a missing fence post: "I missed one on the fence. You're right, I did."

By the end it's "a very luxurious meeting room," waiting for tables. One set of stairs will go down to a kitchen under this level so food can come up, and Basket flips which way they run to leave more room for those tables, putting in placeholder stairs before the stream ends. The credits run to the last frame with no gameplay after them.
