Episode 5 starts over. An edited-in card reading "World 1: Fresh Start" sits over the game's main menu, and Basket clicks New game, keeps the map generator on its default settings, and generates a fresh freeplay map. Nothing is built yet. By the end there are burner drills on coal, iron and stone, four furnaces, and a belt loop that does half of what it was meant to do. No research has been started.
A new map
"We just finished Factorio in the last couple episodes," the commentary says, "and so we're going to just play a new, I think, new game." Peaceful mode stays off. The game's hints window opens first, and the commentary reads through it off camera. Then the freeplay goal appears in an orange box: "Your task is to launch a rocket into space. Do this by constructing a Rocket Silo and launching a rocket with a satellite." It ends with a warning to "protect yourself from the natives." The quickbar already holds a burner mining drill and a furnace.
Burners on coal
Basket chops trees and mines a little iron and coal by hand, then sets the first burner mining drill on the edge of the coal field. With no belts yet, chests catch what it digs. More drills follow on iron and stone. Every machine burns fuel, so Basket runs coal back and forth to keep them going: "Eventually I'll, you know, automate that so that it will run itself, but not yet." Night falls fast, and the commentary has second thoughts: "maybe I should have actually put my first thing on iron."
Four furnaces and a belt
A row of four stone furnaces goes up in open ground, with burner inserters to load them, "the grabbers that use burners," and a wooden chest under each. Then the conveyor belt arrives: the chests by the coal drills come out, and a belt runs from the drills along the top of the furnace row.
That raises a question about sides. "If I load something on the other side, I wonder how that works." Basket sets up a chest and an inserter to test it, watches where the items land, removes the test, and tries again from the other side of the belt. The answer: "when these things loaded it loads on the other side. Interesting, okay, good to know."
Coal on the outside
Sharing one belt causes trouble. An inserter grabs coal for itself, "but it didn't grab the coal and move it around, though, so this guy's gonna run out. So that's an issue." Basket pulls the side-swap test apart and tries a new idea: drop items into a chest, have inserters facing out put them back on the belt, and get "the coal to be on the outside, the things we want to burn to be on the inside." The belt becomes a big loop from the furnaces down to the iron patch so "the coal will just kind of always go around."
The things to burn now ride around the loop, "that's actually working good," but some machines still have to be fed: "I guess for now I just have to manually, like, load them up." Red warning icons hang over two of them. "I wish that these things had a filter," the commentary says. "I saw something in the thing about filters, but I think that's later on." A chest goes at the end to hold leftovers, and one more question is left hanging: "can I make them cross somehow?"
Where it ends
The crafting window is open on the iron chest, "which stores more stuff." The commentary calls it the end of the episode with copper not even started: "I didn't even do copper yet." The research box at the top of the screen still reads "Press T to start a new research."
