Episode 13 opens on the freeplay factory with some work already done off camera: the commentary says better furnaces were researched, so steel furnaces now do the smelting. The episode doubles as a live stream, so some of the talk answers viewers. Over the hour Basket runs belts beside the labs so red and green science packs reach them without hand-feeding, lays the first fast transport belts, and starts on oil, ending up with two oil refineries that turn crude oil into solid fuel. At the end the refineries are running again after a pipe fix, and Plastics is in the research box.
The science line
The opening tour starts at the science assemblers. "This whole thing here is to craft red science and then this whole section here is to craft green science." Packs come out faster than they get used, and the commentary admits, "right now I'm not even researching." Logistics 2 goes into the research box ("faster belts sounds like a cool thing"). Power is the other worry: the solar arrays "only produce during the day," and at night the steam engines take over, "but it's not quite as productive as I would prefer."
The labs still get their packs by hand. "I would like to know if there's a way to load these in automatically." A viewer's answer is read out: a lab "wouldn't request another one via inserter thingy until it ran out." Then the real catch turns up. "Oh, I'm not researching." Logistics 2 finishes ("now we have faster belts"), and Circuit network goes in next.
Belts beside the labs
Basket clears out ammunition and steel, borrows ordinary inserters from another line ("I don't need to have them fast"), and runs belts down both sides of the lab columns, "one for one type of science, one for the other type of science." Filter inserters pull packs off the science line, and splitters and an underground belt steer red packs to one side and green to the other. "So now all the green science and red science will automatically populate these two belts." The commentary plans to bring in the other two kinds of pack the same way once the research for them is done.
The split does not work at first. Green spreads over both belts, but red piles up on one. "Red is not, because I'm putting it directly on this." Basket moves the inserter down one tile, relays the belt and a power pole, and "now we're in business." Circuit network finishes, and Oil processing starts.
Fast belts
With Logistics 2 done, Basket crafts fast transport belts in batches and lays a stretch of them near the storage chests. "Now we have some fast belts running in there. Looks very nice. It's cleared out all this congestion in here, sort of." The commentary has doubts, though: the fast belts are "not going to be faster than the stuff in front of them."
Oil
Oil processing finishes, and Basket heads out to the oil with a pump and a chemical plant. The plant's recipe list turns out to want heavy oil, "so it's not even the right thing." The tech tree points to the oil refinery instead ("wow, it's big"), so the chemical plant comes out and two refineries go in, fed by two pumps. The pipes fight back. They join wherever they touch, they need rotating ("I got so used to these things not requiring rotating"), and the pipe-to-ground pieces are a puzzle: "I don't understand how the underground thing works." Night falls while all this goes on. "It's not very pretty. This is my first time using these things."
The refineries make solid fuel, and Basket tries some in a burner. The tech tree shows Fluid handling, but it needs blue science packs, "and I don't even have that yet," so Electric energy distribution 1 goes in instead. For now, inserters move the solid fuel onto a belt and into a steel chest. "It's not quite what I wanted." The commentary also calls them "some ugly oil refineries" and says the pipes should have been spaced out more.
Where it ends
Back at the main base, raw ore has turned up on a belt where it does not belong, so fast inserters and a chest go in to clear it. Plastics comes next in the research box. "I have too many resources coming in," the commentary says, and a second production area is floated for next time. Before signing off, Basket checks the refineries one last time and finds them stopped, because one pipe was connected wrong. Basket re-runs it, and "everything's happy now." The episode ends there, at night by the refineries, with Plastics still researching.
