Episode 14 picks up at the oil field from Episode 13, where the pipes have been reworked off camera. The edited-in card reads "Episode 14" and "World 1: Better Piping." Basket turns some of the oil into plastic bars, reroutes the pipes so there is room to walk between them, adds storage tanks, and spends the rest of the time on a main belt that keeps backing up. At the end, Laser is in the research box and the belt is still not fixed.
Pipes you can walk through
"If you watched the last episode during the stream, I had some of these guys all rigged up and it was complete chaos," the commentary says. Now a single crude oil line runs up and down past the machines. One machine is "currently maxed out," maybe, the commentary guesses, because there is more coming in than it can handle. Plastics is done ("I just got the plastic research"), so one of the machines that made solid fuel gets a new recipe. "Now we have plastic bars. Ta-da!"
Then the layout gets redone. Pipe-to-ground pieces dip under the walkways, and the pipes are spaced out "so it gives it a little bit of space to walk around." Basket finds that two pipes can overlap, "I didn't really anticipate that was a choice," which leaves room to hook more machines into the same line later.
The main belt backs up
Back at the base, one belt is so congested that some machines run short of iron. Basket crafts fast splitters and fast transport belts to "split up some of the traffic," and sends the overflow up into storage. A row of filter inserters goes in along the belt, each feeding its own chest, set to copper, iron and, after a second look, steel. The gun turrets get fresh ammunition too. "I really don't like it when the dudes come in and they destroy my stuff."
It helps, for a while. "Now it's kind of keeping up for now, but not really for very long." The commentary sums it up: "We're gonna have to redesign the whole thing."
Storage tanks
Fluid handling finishes, and the research screen lists what it brings. "A small pump takes an engine, which we have now, storage tank," the commentary reads, "and then barrels." Since there is "no real use" for solid fuel yet, Basket disconnects two lines and puts down a tank. The first try will not connect: "You can store crude but not the other stuff, I guess." After moving it and running an underground pipe, the tank starts filling. A filter inserter pulls solid fuel off to the side, and by the end there are "backup tanks for each of those."
Where the plastic goes
The research screen shows Advanced electronics, and its advanced circuit takes electronic circuits, plastic bars and copper cable. "So this is where we're gonna need plastics." Advanced electronics finishes, and Laser goes in next. Processing units need sulfuric acid, which Basket cannot make yet. Advanced oil processing turns out to need water as well as crude oil.
Where it ends
Back at the belt, another filter inserter pulls steel off. "This is kind of a short-term solution." It has already jammed again, with iron stuck in the line, and the commentary floats running each material on its own side of a belt. The episode ends over the science area with Laser still researching and the belt fix promised for next time.
