Episode 4 of Season 2 opens on the same words that closed Episode 3: "Oh, we actually have combat. Let's go shoot some guys." Basket puts up turrets and stone walls, swaps the old furnaces for steel furnaces, deals with a second attack from the north, and then starts a separate smelting block. When the episode ends, the new block is built but has a flaw the commentary has just spotted.
Back to the fight
The enemies from the end of the last stream are still around. "Oh, there's another one behind me." Then, "there's a bad guy right there. He was stuck in there." The commentary decides to "take a break from that stuff" and defend the base. Gun turrets and a short stone wall go in beside the furnace column, and the belts get fixed. "I don't know where they came from exactly but it's okay." Some of the factory is damaged, "but I haven't made any repair tools yet."
Steel furnaces
Steel is now coming out of the furnaces, and for now it goes into a chest by hand. "For now, it's gonna be a manual process." The steel and stone bricks are for steel furnaces, and a filter inserter is set to pull spare bricks off the belt into a chest. The first steel furnace goes in where an old one stood: "Oh, they are the same size. Oh, that's amazing." The commentary plans to keep burning coal in steel furnaces rather than use electric ones, which it calls "really slow." Row by row the furnaces get swapped, with steel as the bottleneck.
An attack from the north
Then the commentary reports enemies to the north. "Looks like they actually went to where I put in the defenses, which is nice." More turrets go in along the wall there and are loaded with ammunition by hand. "Right now it's a manual process. I don't have automatic ammunition heading up here." There is no radar yet, and the commentary cannot see where their bases are.
Plastics finishes, and the research screen shows Advanced oil processing as available. "We now have plastics, so if we actually had oil that we were mining up..." Lab research speed 1 goes in next.
A separate smelting block
The iron line is backing up, so the commentary decides on "my own little mining base." A filter inserter pulls iron ore off the belt and sends it to an empty patch of ground near the trees. Steel furnaces go in two columns with the ore belt down the middle. "So the idea is that that belt would have stuff on both sides. I messed up." Splitters and underground belts put coal on the inside lanes, and warning icons cover the furnaces until it all connects.
Where it ends
By nightfall both columns are glowing, but the commentary sees a problem: the inserters are grabbing from the output side, so "this might be making a bunch of steel possibly." A splitter helps spread the ore a little. "So there's a flaw in my design." The last idea is to space it out "to have coal run horizontally through here." The video ends there. Lab research speed 1 has finished and no new research is started.
