The third stream of Factorio Season 2 picks up right where the last one stopped. "We just got Green Science all plugged in, researching the engine." Over half an hour Basket puts turrets around the base, adds five more sets of steam engines, builds lines for walls and turrets, and starts on steel. The research queue moves from Engine through Oil processing and Advanced material processing to Plastics. Right at the end, the first enemies show up.
Turrets that feed themselves
Defense comes first. The commentary can't make blueprints yet, so the plan is small turret clusters, each with an assembling machine making ammunition from a nearby iron belt. "I'm just gonna make it so that I can have some turrets that are sort of self-contained with its own little factory of making ammunition for it." Where no iron runs past, the turrets get ammo by hand "for now." An ammo assembler is also set to drop extra into a chest, "so now I have a chest where I can grab a bunch of ammo from if I need to."
Along the way the coal line backs up, and slow inserters are swapped for fast ones. "It's meant to be a buffer, not a bottleneck."
More power
A look at the power shows "not enough." The commentary sets out to "make five sets" of boilers and steam engines by the lake, but is not sure of the numbers: "I don't really know, like, how many I should do per pump." A viewer suggested "four burners to three steam engines." Pipes get extended, a second line goes in beside the first, and filter inserters feed them coal. "So now we're actually producing more energy than we need."
Meanwhile Engine finishes, and the research screen points toward drones. "To get that we need to work on oil, right?" Oil processing goes into the research box. A viewer pointed out that coal was going the wrong way into the copper line, and the commentary moves it to the other side. "Oh, thank you. You're right."
Bricks and walls
An oil patch turns up not far from the base, but the commentary holds off: "once I start reaching over there I think the bad guys are gonna be upset with me." The next research is the steel furnace. "Ah yes, a steel furnace would be nice."
The next build is a row of furnaces cooking stone into bricks, with two assemblers turning the bricks into walls that go into chests. One power pole won't reach a spot, so "for now it doesn't have any power." The walls start piling up "for eventually when these dudes show up."
A turret factory
"I guess I should make a factory for making turrets." The iron and copper belt is rerouted so both reach a new row of assemblers, some making gears and the rest making turrets, with a filter inserter at the end loading the turrets into a chest. "Is it working? Yes."
The research screen now shows Advanced material processing researched. The commentary looks for the drones again and finds Flight still out of reach, so the next pick is Plastics, and the game reports "started research Plastics."
Where it ends
The last build turns a row of furnaces over to steel, with splitters to share the belt. When the camera leaves them, warning icons still sit over the furnaces and their inserters. Then: "Oh, we actually have combat. Let's go shoot some guys." The screen flashes red near the steam engines, and a power pole there has taken damage. The commentary decides to "take a break from that stuff" and defend the base with turrets, and the stream cuts off mid-sentence. Plastics is still researching.
