Episode 2 of Season 2 picks up where the first stream stopped, with Automation 2 now showing as researched. The commentary sets the goal right away: "Our first objective that I have right now is I want to make stuff for green science." Over half an hour, Basket builds assembling machines for green circuits and inserters, sets up four green science assemblers, runs low on power and adds more steam engines, then starts a line for fast inserters. When the episode ends, green science is being made and the research screen is open on a tech that needs it.
Red research and faster inserters
The first minutes go to research. With only red science, the commentary picks whatever is available: "We'll research everything that requires just red." The research box runs through Stone walls, Turrets, Optics, Steel processing and Military in a few minutes. "Oh my research is so fast."
Meanwhile trees come down near the iron to make room. A pair of assembling machines starts making gears and belts. The regular inserters along the furnace row are swapped for fast inserters, "because the regular inserts are pretty slow," and a few more furnaces go in down the line.
Green circuits and an inserter line
Green science needs belts and inserters, and the inserters need green circuits, which the commentary calls green chips. Assembling machines for copper cable go in, feeding machines set to green circuits. One is set to the wrong recipe first. "Oh no I did this wrong. I wanted to make green chips. Okay we're still good."
Next to them, a gear assembler feeds an inserter assembler, and a filter inserter pulls only green circuits off the belt for it. "It's kind of a mess but it's not too bad. I'll rearrange these later when I have more space and I'm more defended and stuff." Bullet damage 1 goes into research while the parts pile up.
Four green science assemblers
Getting the belts to the right spot takes underground belts, a splitter and what the commentary calls "the stupid loop." Four assembling machines are set to green science, each with fast inserters and power. "So we can output green science in the bottom." After some fiddling with the belt, "I think it's connected now."
Low on power
The commentary wonders what the new assemblers are waiting on, then finds it: "Oh no power, we're low on power." Back at the lake, a second row of boilers and steam engines goes in beside the first, with coal brought over to fuel them. "I haven't quite perfected these things yet." Soon after, "We have green science piling up."
A line for fast inserters
The last build reuses the belt that feeds the science. A filter inserter takes leftover inserters off the end, a splitter brings iron up, and a row of assemblers makes fast inserters into a chest. The game refuses one spot ("What can't I build where?") and copper runs short for a while. A viewer suggested building fast inserters where the regular ones are made. "Oh yeah, I suppose... but I guess I'm already at this point." The commentary calls the whole base temporary: "My long term plan is to kind of redo everything, once I have more technology."
Where it ends
After a look around the base ("everything looks like it's going pretty well"), the research screen opens on Engine, which costs both red and green science. No new research is started on screen before the episode ends. Green science and fast inserters are being made, and the base has a second row of steam engines. Earlier the commentary noted, "I don't see any monsters on our map yet."
