Episode 17 of Season 2 is a stream with one goal: reach a new oil field to the east. The way there runs through enemy nests, so Basket builds a second logistic network that moves supplies across a bridge of chests and lets robots build the wall forward cell by cell. Big spitters, night power drops and one shortage after another slow it down. When the stream ends, the wall has reached the oil, but nothing is mining it yet.
A plan for the oil
The stream opens on the map, with the oil to the east and plenty of enemy territory in between. "So actually I have a plan." Robots that fly over enemy bases to build die, so the plan is a second logistic network out at the front, fed from the main one.
Productivity module 3 is in the research box at the start. Once it finishes, Rocket silo goes in, which the commentary calls "the last research thing we need to beat the game." Fifty requester chests get requested from the network, and an old line of laser turrets that no longer has power gets picked up.
The robots in the armor start the push, placing laser turrets and cutting trees. Big spitters shoot them down, and soon "all my drones died." The rocket launcher is out of rockets too. The lesson, on the recording: advance a little slower.
The bridge
The bridge is a column of requester chests on the main network's side, inserters, short belts, and passive provider chests on the far side. Each requester chest gets one job: walls, gates, turrets, power poles, red belts, inserters, rail, lights, repair packs, more requester chests, and a lot of ammo. Their storage limits are cut down so they do not store too much. A batch of construction robots is moved from the main network into the new one.
With its own network, the front builds "fairly quick." The ammo request turns out to be too big, though, and keeps the robots busy carrying ammo. Red belts never show up until the cause turns up: one chest was set to pipes. Chests for iron, copper and steel go in too, for crafting on the spot.
Cells, a roundabout and a lake
The wall moves out one rail cell at a time. Laser turrets clear the nests ahead, then get picked up from the back and placed again at the front. At an important junction, a roundabout goes in with defenses facing each way.
A lake sits in the way. Landfill gets researched and some is made from stone, but it fills one square at a time: "that would take a while." The route goes around the lake instead. Night falls, which makes it hard to see, and the power runs low, because "most of my power is solar."
Running short
From here the front keeps running out of things. Power poles run out because the new section never got a requester chest for them. Copper runs short, so drills for a stone patch cannot be crafted, and the stone requested from the network never comes. Laser turrets run low as well. The big green enemies wreck parts of the line while the power is down. "So maybe I advanced too quick, maybe?"
Miners finally arrive, and two drills go down by a stone patch. Then the research screen reads "Rocket silo (researched)," and Laser turret shooting speed 1 starts next. By the end, level 4 is in the research box.
Where it ends
New turrets come in slowly, because the only storage in the new network is back at its start. The commentary sums it up before ending the stream: "we got to the oil," but mining has not started yet. With the research done, the crafting menu comes up to look for the rocket silo and its parts. Securing the area for plastic comes first, though, and the commentary signs off with "we're close to beating season two."
