Engi Cruiser A, Run 2: Faster Than Light

  • Published on

Engi Cruiser A, Run 2 is a short run with one target. In the hangar, the Engi Cruiser Type B is locked behind "Complete 2/3 of the Engi Cruiser Achievements," and Basket says the plan is to "destroy enemy ship with only using... drones." The Torus goes out on Normal with three Engi crew, Nekose, Teldarin and Frederic, an Ion Blast Mark II and a Combat Drone Mark I. The achievement comes in Sector 2, and the video ends early in Sector 3 with the ship still flying.

Reading the fine print

Sector 1 is a Civilian Sector. Basket defends a refueling outpost from a Rebel scout, then saves the scrap at the first store. Against a Pirate Investigator, Basket aims at its weapons "because I don't really want to get hurt at all doing these things," then pauses to read the achievement again: "With the Engi Cruiser, destroy an enemy ship using only drones (no weapons)." The Ion Blast counts as a weapon. "Not even this thing."

The next fight is a Pirate Instigator. "So he has Mind Control, the big shields," Basket says. Boarders get in and knock the drones out ("Please repair my drones, thank you very much"), and the win costs "a lot more damage than I wanted to take."

Fuel for a stranger

A Rebel Fighter charges its FTL, but Basket delays it and brings it down for 15 scrap. A station under construction asks about its missing cargo ship, and when the Torus finds it, Basket hands over the 4 fuel it asks for. The reward is "not nearly as much as I want." Sector 2 is a Zoltan Controlled Sector.

I hardly lifted a finger

In a nebula, an Auto-Surveyor turns up with no shields. "So this might be the case where we try and pull this off," Basket says, and leaves the Ion Blast switched off while the Combat Drone does the work. The Auto-Surveyor breaks apart, and the game shows the "I hardly lifted a finger" achievement, then Engi Cruiser Type B. "Well, that wasn't so hard."

Drones on drones

Basket keeps going. At a nebula beacon with two pirate ships, Basket secures the fuel supply and fights off a Pirate Scout. A Rebel Rigger sends boarders into the medbay ("It's nice that he did it inside my med bay"), tries to run, and is destroyed, leaving a Defense Drone Mark I. At the next store Basket buys a System Repair Drone, since "you only have to spend the drone once," then fuel, repairs and upgrades, the drones among them.

How it ended

The sector map offers Zoltan Homeworlds or the Uncharted Nebula, and Basket takes the Uncharted Nebula as Sector 3. Earlier Basket had said "maybe I'll switch over... to the other ship." Soon after arriving, with all three crew still aboard, Basket closes: "And I think with that, I will end this episode." This is the only video of Run 2, so the run stops there, with no victory or game-over screen.
