FTL: Faster Than Light

The challenge

FTL: Faster Than Light is a single-player game about flying one ship across the galaxy, one jump at a time, with a small crew. Basket's series, "Faster Than Lunch," starts the game from scratch on Normal difficulty. The goal, as the video descriptions put it, is to beat the game with each ship design and get all the achievements.

A run is one attempt at the game, which ends when the ship is destroyed or the Rebel Flagship is beaten. Every run here has its own page, with all of its parts embedded in order. The series covers 62 runs across 10 ships and 25 ship layouts, in 205 videos uploaded between November 2014 and November 2016.

Three stretches

  • Late 2014 (the Twitch era): Kestrel Cruiser A, Run 1, and the first two parts of Engi Cruiser A, Run 1, in parts of 10 to 23 minutes.
  • April to October 2015: the bulk of the series, one part a day, almost without a break, from the rest of Engi Cruiser A, Run 1 through Stealth Cruiser B, Run 3. Parts run from 6 to 43 minutes.
  • June to November 2016: nine lunch-time streams, each uploaded as a single video of about an hour, apart from the last one, which runs two and a half hours. These streams have no run numbers, so each page is named for the date of its stream.
