Stealth Cruiser A, Run 4: Faster Than Light

  • Published on

The videos for this run start at Part 3: Parts 1 and 2 are not on the channel, so this recap picks up there. The ship is The Nesasio, the Stealth Cruiser A, with two shields, Dual Lasers, a Mini Beam, a Halberd Beam and a Combat Drone. The crew list shows three crew, Starger, Firedihm and Jax. Basket is still chasing a goal from earlier: to take a ship "all the way from 100% down to zero" in one cloak. The run reaches the third stage of the Rebel Flagship in Sector 8, where The Nesasio is destroyed for a score of 3548.

Part 3: A slow Slug nebula

Sector 5 is a Slug Controlled Nebula. "A slug sector, that's even worse," Basket says. Early on a free crew member, Giles, joins. Then a dangerous ship guarding a station offers a choice of what to lose: shields, oxygen or weapons. Basket picks oxygen and kills a Slug Scout before the crew runs out of air.

The Mini Beam keeps missing. A Rebel Fighter with three shields drags on until Basket gives up: "This isn't working. Yeah, I'll jump away." A Slug Assault charges its FTL drive and jumps away too. "The problem is that I don't have very good weapons," Basket says. At a store the scrap goes on a Chain Burst Laser, and the Halberd Beam goes into cargo.

A Pirate Rigger surrenders for fuel, missiles and scrap. Then a Mantis Aggressor teleports boarders in and the fight gets messy. The ship wins, but the crew list loses Firedihm: "we lost the guy." The part ends with a survivor too hurt to save and the exit to the next sector.

Part 4: A quest, a bomb and a full crew

Sector 6 is the Rock Homeworlds, and Basket heads for a quest marker. At a slave trader Basket buys one and frees them, and Debbie, a Rock, joins. The quest ends with a Zoltan ship asking why the crew is there. Basket admits to looking the answer up and comes away a little let down: "I was hoping I was going to get that guy's ship design." By the next beacon Jax is gone from the crew list.

Another slaver, a Pirate Bomber, gets attacked rather than paid, and offers a crew member to stop. Zerimar, a Zoltan, comes aboard. An Energy Fighter with four shields and what Basket calls "the super shield on top of that" falls next. "Yes, I actually survived that." At the store Basket buys a Small Bomb and sells the beam weapon.

Sector 7 is a Zoltan Controlled Sector. An Engi Bomber and an Auto-Hacker both go down, and a second store adds Elizabeth and a Rock named Yeoz to the crew. An Energy Fighter sends boarders, and Basket wins by killing its whole crew. At the exit Basket runs out of bombs against a Pirate Rigger and jumps away.

Part 5: The Last Stand

Sector 8 is The Last Stand. Basket can't get through a Rebel Invader's four shields and jumps, and an Auto-Surveyor proves hard to hit. With the scrap from the way in, Basket buys a fourth shield barrier.

Then the Rebel Flagship arrives. It hacks the Medbay, fires break out, and Elizabeth is lost. "I can't believe I survived through the first round of this bad guy," Basket says. The second stage brings drones and crew damage, and the ship gets through it with no bombs left.

The third stage is where it falls apart. The Flagship mind-controls the crew. "I don't want to fight my own guy," Basket says. Hull and engine warnings go up, and The Nesasio breaks apart.

How it ended

The game-over screen reads "One last explosion marks your fate as your ship is torn apart," with a score of 3548 and "New High Score!" Starger, Giles, Debbie, Zerimar and Yeoz were still aboard. "I actually made it," Basket says, "all the way to the third round on the end boss. That's pretty cool." The ship best list now shows The Nesasio at 3548, Sector 8.
