Basket takes the Engi Cruiser Type A out again, The Torus on Normal with Advanced Edition content enabled, hoping to "get to sector 8," then noting that the unlock asks for the Flagship defeated: "well, that's probably tougher." It starts with an Ion Blast II, a Combat Drone I, the Engi Med-bot Dispersal augment and three Engi crew: Notch, Aisha and Stelly. The run lasts three parts and ends in Sector 5, the Mantis Homeworlds, where a Rebel Invader destroys The Torus for a score of 1425.
Part 1: Weapons first, then fire
Sector 1 is a Civilian Sector. The Ion Blast and the Combat Drone handle an Auto-Scout without taking a hit, and Basket turns down a pirate's surrender in an asteroid field: "I would like more money than anything right now." At the first store Basket looks at an Anti-Personnel Drone but leaves without buying anything.
Then a refugee ship drifts past with its distress beacon on. Basket boards to investigate, the refugees turn on the boarding party, and the game reports "Notch is gone." "I'm tempted to restart. I hate losing my guys," Basket says, but keeps going with two crew.
Fighting a Rebel Fighter, Basket switches the ion shots from the shields to the weapons: "I think that'll probably be a better bet to take less damage." The next store sells an Anti-Ship Fire Drone, and Basket buys it to "do a bunch of fire damage to them." Twice Basket attacks Rebel ships raiding civilians, and the second fight leaves the shields down and the crew patching systems. After taking the civilians' supplies again, Basket swears it off: "I won't steal from the civilians anymore."
Sector 2 is the Mantis Controlled Sector. Against a Mantis Interceptor the Fire Drone starts fires all over the enemy ship while the ion keeps its weapons down. "This isn't even doing any real damage, it's only damage from fire." The game shows the "Victory through Asphyxiation" achievement. "They suffocated. That's funny." An escape pod brings a new crew member, Narth, and a Mantis Scout goes down to the fires the same way before the part ends with a jump toward Sector 3.
Part 2: The Uncharted Nebula
Basket picks the nebula, and Sector 3 is the Uncharted Nebula. A space station takes two fuel for a drone part, and the scrap goes into another layer of shields rather than more crew. A Rebel Rigger surrenders and Basket takes the fuel. A Pirate Investigator follows, with two shields and missiles. "Come on, combat drone, do something, your job." Two missiles land before the ion and the drone wear it down, and it surrenders too.
An Auto-Scout with big-looking weapons shows the problem with the build: "having to rely on only combat drones, it's kind of a problem." Then a Mantis Interceptor hunts The Torus through the nebula and sends boarders, and the Combat Drone slowly chips at its hull. Basket reaches the exit beacon and ends the part before the jump to Sector 4.
Part 3: Out of fuel and out of scrap
Sector 4 is the Engi Homeworlds. At the first store Basket decides the ship needs a weapon that actually does damage, in case they "run into something with an anti-combat drone," and buys a Pike Beam. That leaves almost no scrap, and the fuel runs low too. "Now we're really broke."
A Rebel Disruptor arrives with exactly the anti-drone setup Basket worried about. "We're mainly just gonna try and get out of here," Basket says, but the Rebel ship runs first. With no fuel left, Basket turns on the beacon and waits. Exploring the nearby area turns up a Pirate Assault charging its FTL drive. Its engines go down, and it hands over fuel to be spared.
For Sector 5 the choice is between two homeworlds. Basket picks the Mantis Homeworlds, "because at least maybe we can use the fire again." The first fight there is a Rebel Invader.
How it ended
The Rebel Invader's boarders land in the oxygen room and its missiles knock out the medbay and most other systems. Basket gets the weapons repaired, but the hull is already critical. "Oh, wait, we're dead." The Torus breaks apart in Sector 5 with Aisha, Stelly and Narth aboard, and the Game Over box reads "One last explosion marks your fate as your ship is torn apart," with a score of 1425. Basket counts two more achievements from the run, one "for disabling stuff" and one for "starving them to death." The video goes on through the hangar, the ship list and the stats screens before the end cards.
