Slug Cruiser A, Run 2: Faster Than Light

  • Published on

Basket takes the Slug Cruiser, Layout A, out again with one goal: "we're trying to get the other two achievements." The pause menu shows the game on Normal with Advanced Edition content enabled, and the crew list shows two Slugs, Maloney and Malott, with an Anti-Bio Beam, a Breach I bomb and Dual Lasers. The run is one video and ends in Sector 2 with the ship intact, after Basket earns one of the two achievements and unlocks the Slug Cruiser Type B, then heads to the hangar.

Two achievements to chase

The tooltips spell out the targets. "We're in Position!" asks for vision of every room of the enemy ship without functioning sensors. "Disintegration Ray" asks for three enemy crew killed with one shot from the Anti-Bio Beam. Basket plans to work on the beam first.

Sector 1 is a Civilian Sector. The first ship, a Pirate Interceptor, does not even have three crew. A Pirate Rigger next to a sun does, though one is a Rock. The crew never line up for the beam, a fire breaks out in the Medbay, and the Rigger ends the fight neutral, leaving scrap, fuel and drone parts. "Yeah, it's going to be really hard to do that."

Mind Control and a Crew Teleporter

An Auto-Scout and an Auto-Hacker follow, both without crew. Basket hits the Auto-Hacker's FTL drive before it can escape: "FTL is delayed, good." At the first store Basket buys Mind Control for 75 scrap. During a fight with an Auto-Surveyor, Basket has the plan: "if we get crew teleporting in this example we can put the slug in those two rooms and we will get the achievement." A station near the wreck then gives up a Hull Laser I.

Sector 2 is a Zoltan Controlled Sector. Basket uses Mind Control on an Energy Fighter, and the fight ends with event text saying no life signs are left aboard. Agreeing to take part in a study pays off too: "we got an anti-personnel drone for free." The next store has the Crew Teleporter for 90 scrap, and Basket buys it. A Zoltan science ship asks to dock, and Basket keeps it at a distance: "I don't want to lose any guys 'cause we're on track for the achievement."

We're in Position!

A Pirate Fighter is the test. Basket mind controls one pirate and teleports the two Slugs aboard. The "We're in Position!" achievement pops up, then "Slug Cruiser Type B." "So now we have the B version." The fight ends with 31 more scrap.

How it ended

"That was actually my main objective," Basket says. At the Sector 2 exit, Basket goes to the hangar instead of jumping. No game-over screen appears. The hangar shows the new layout, the Stormwalker, and Basket reads it out: three Slugs, crew teleporting and a healing bomb. "This one doesn't have the bio beam, so we wouldn't be able to get the other achievement." Basket says the next episode will play the new ship. The video ends with its end cards.
