Rock Cruiser C, Lunch Stream, June 21, 2016: Faster Than Light

  • Published on

The first of the 2016 stream recordings opens in the hangar on the Rock Cruiser Type C, and the commentary explains the plan: the Crystal Cruiser is locked behind a quest line that is "easier if you have a rock cruiser." The Tektite launches on Normal with Advanced Edition content enabled, a Swarm missile launcher, a Heavy Crystal Mark I, Rock Plating and no drone system. The crew list shows Adnan, Manon and Nekose, the Crystal. The stream ends with the ship intact at the exit of Sector 3, so this run continues later.

Sector 1: Delaying the Rebel Fighter

Sector 1 is a Civilian Sector. The first beacon holds a Rebel Fighter already charging its FTL drive, so the crystal shot goes into its piloting. The target panel flips to "Enemy FTL Delayed," the Swarm's three missiles knock out its weapons, and it never gets away.

A wreck in a plasma storm gives up Breach Missiles. The Tektite wins a fight against boarders, steps in when a Rebel scout attacks a refueling outpost, and fights a ship in a nebula with low power. A refugee ship turns out to be a trap. The last fight of the sector is against an automated ship guarding a supply cache, and the cache holds a Small Bomb. "Okay, so we have a bunch of money."

Sector 2: Two Scrap Recovery Arms

Sector 2 is an Engi Controlled Sector. An abandoned mining station hands over a free defense drone, though the ship has no drone system to use it. The first store has no drone bay ("I'm not impressed"), so Basket buys a Scrap Recovery Arm, hires Shelton and upgrades the shields.

A refueling station turns out to be a trap, and the pirate there has a crew teleporter. Once its weapons are beaten up it begs for its life and offers fuel, missiles, 32 scrap and a second Scrap Recovery Arm. "Can I have two scrap recovery arms?" The offer is accepted, and the ship's sell screen later shows both arms.

At a smoldering Engi research station the away team saves the wounded Engi. One of the Tektite's crew dies doing it, but the clone bay brings them back, and Rafn joins the crew. A slaver attacked at the next beacon surrenders and hands over one of its slaves, Malott, as tribute.

Sector 3: Drones and the stasis pod

Sector 3 is a Rock Controlled Sector, "which is where I'm from." The Tektite helps a civilian ship fight off a pirate, and one of its crew, Magmar, joins. The commentary notes Magmar "also acts as a power source."

The next store finally has a drone bay. "Everything is wonderful." One Scrap Recovery Arm is sold for a Drone Recovery Arm, the Breach Missiles go too, and a Burst Laser I comes in. A Combat Drone Mark II now sits in cargo.

A ship without life forms is calling for help in a dense asteroid field. The crew grabs the stasis chamber ("this is actually the crystal thing"), and the ship gets the Damaged Stasis Pod. With no room for a fourth augmentation, the last Scrap Recovery Arm is left behind.

Flak and boarders

A second slaver carries a flak cannon and two shields. The Tektite takes the shields down first, and the slaver surrenders and gives up Alex. Later, boarders come aboard during a long fight. When crew members get badly hurt, Basket lets them die so the clone bay brings them back at full health; the commentary points out that they "lose a skill point" doing it. The Tektite steps in when an automated Rebel scout attacks another refueling outpost, and a last round of upgrades gives the combat drone power before the jump.

How it ended

The Tektite reaches the Sector 3 exit with eight crew: Adnan, Manon, Nekose, Shelton, Rafn, Malott, Magmar and Alex. It carries the Crystal H. I, Swarm, Small Bomb and Burst Laser I, a Defense I and a Combat II drone, and the Drone Recovery Arm, Rock Plating and the Damaged Stasis Pod. The sector map offers a Pirate Controlled or a Rebel Controlled sector next. "Next time we play this, we'll be doing one of those two sectors. Probably pirate." The video ends there, before the jump.
