Rock Cruiser C, Lunch Stream, July 15, 2016: Faster Than Light

  • Published on

This stream picks up the Rock Cruiser C game from the June 21 stream, with the Tektite still sitting at the exit of Sector 3. A title card reads "Faster Than Light 2016-07-15 VOD, Rock Cruiser C." The crew list is the same eight: Adnan, Manon, Nekose, Shelton, Rafn, Malott, Magmar and Alex. The goal is still the hidden Crystal sector, which the pause menu lists as the "Ancestry" achievement. The stream ends with the ship intact at a store in the Hidden Crystal Worlds, right after the Crystal Cruiser is unlocked.

Sector 4: The Rebel Rigger nearly escapes

The sector map offers Pirate Controlled or Rebel Controlled. "Let's do the Rebel one, why not?" Sector 4 is a Rebel Controlled Sector, and the first beacon brings intruders and a fire next to a sun. With the clone bay on board, hurt crew are sent off to die and come back healthy, which the commentary calls repairing them up: "And by that I mean kill 'em."

At the first store Basket buys Mind Control, "just so we have a counter to being mind controlled." It gets used right away against an automated ship that mind controls the Tektite's crew.

The big fight of the sector is a Rebel Rigger that keeps charging its FTL drive. Hits on its piloting delay the jump twice. "So he almost got away." Basket tries to kill the crew and leave the ship in one piece, but it takes too long. "Oh well, I tried." A stealthed Rebel scout does get away at the next beacon. The sector ends with a Rebel ship dropping boarders on the Tektite, and the plan is just to survive until the FTL drive is ready. It jumps out badly beaten up.

Sector 5: Looking for the quest

Sector 5 is a Rock Controlled Sector. The commentary admits, "I forget the exact quest line for the rock control." A Zoltan merchant can't communicate, an overheard quest needs a crew teleporter the ship doesn't have, and two Rock ships surrender for missiles, a drone part and fuel.

A ship stuck in an asteroid belt asks for help. Basket picks the Defense Drone option. The drone keeps the other ship from breaking apart, the Tektite takes some damage on the way out ("Oh and that hurt us too? Lame."), and the reward is a Hermes Missile, "a big missile."

A viewer points out that the quest needs the Rock Homeworlds, so the Tektite skips a store and heads for the exit. An asteroid mining colony takes five missiles in trade. "That wasn't really worth it."

Sector 6: The ancient device

Sector 6 is the Rock Homeworlds. At a burning research station the Rock crew goes in to save the survivors and comes back with scrap and a second Drone Recovery Arm. "It's interesting that it didn't make me pick which one I wanted to keep." A pirate with teleporting bombs breaks the drone system for a while, and a Rock Fighter's surrender is turned down.

Then the beacon the run has been looking for: "Okay, here we go. This is it." An ancient device orbits in the crystal rings of a gas giant. Basket's first thought is to scrap it, then picks the Crystal Crew option instead. The event says the device is a link to the Crystal home worlds, and it powers on. "Achievement get." The next map is the Hidden Crystal Worlds.

The Hidden Crystal Worlds

The first Crystal ship, a Crystal Instigator, asks for the Tektite's flight plans out of the sector, and Basket hands them over. A round of upgrades follows. The next Crystal ship fights, then asks to stop; Basket finishes it off anyway. A bigger one with a crew teleporter and cloaking sends a boarder over, keeps cloaking, and does real damage before it is beaten. When it tries to call the fight a misunderstanding, Basket ignores it: "I don't like you guys."

At the quest beacon a massive Crystalline cruiser is docked. It goes back to the hangar, the screen reads "The Bravais has been unlocked!" with a "Ship Unlocked! Crystal Cruiser" notice, and the station hands over the Crystal Vengeance augment and repairs 7 hull. The Damaged Stasis Pod, only needed to reach the quest, is swapped out for it.

How it ended

A store nearby sells a Flak Gun Mark II, and Basket buys it ("flak 2 is pretty sweet"), sells the Small Bomb, buys a Crew Teleporter and sells the Hermes Missile to keep the Swarm. The weapons bar ends as Crystal H. I, Burst Laser I, Flak II and Swarm, with the same eight crew. The stream stops on the upgrade screen with 170 scrap, before the end of the sector. "I'll revisit from here next time." The video ends there with the ship intact.
