Stealth Cruiser B, Run 2: Faster Than Light

  • Published on

Basket takes the Stealth Cruiser B out again with one goal: "get this ship to at least sector 8 to unlock the achievement." Last time, Basket says, "we had a lot of problems with losing our guys and there's a bunch of beam weapons that kept on killing us." The hangar shows DA-SR 12, Layout B, on Normal with Advanced Edition content enabled: a Glaive Beam, Long-Ranged Scanners, no shields and no drones. The crew list reads Butters, Jax and CY Heng. Two parts later the ship is out of fuel in Sector 3 and is destroyed by a Rebel Elite Fighter, score 1117.

Part 1: Selling the cargo

Sector 1 is a Civilian Sector. Basket avoids a fight with a Rebel scout, guides a civilian ship for a little scrap, and takes a job from a merchant: deliver a cargo of drone parts to a station a few jumps away. At the next store Basket sells drone parts for scrap. At the station the payment option is grayed out. "Oops, I forgot." Basket refuses and keeps the parts that are left: "they actually would have given us a bunch of money. But I sold them."

Spare scrap goes into reactor power and evasion. With the cloak, Basket slips past an automated Rebel ship to its storage cache for a free System Repair Drone and some scrap. Sector 2 is the Uncharted Nebula. A Pirate Scout surrenders after Basket swaps crew between rooms so the boarder fights the healthy one. Improved Cloaking gets the ship into a Rebel station that hands over a Hull Repair drone schematic. Then a store: Basket buys the Drone Control system, sells the spare drones, and spends the rest on Shields, down to 0 scrap.

FTL event box: the station refuses to pay full price for the drone parts, with "Accept the paltry payment" grayed out and "Refuse and keep the drone parts" available FTL store sell screen with a Glaive Beam, a Combat I drone equipped, and System Repair, Hull Repair and Combat II drones in cargo, the Combat Drone Mark II tooltip open

Part 2: No fuel in pirate space

Sector 3 is a Pirate Controlled Sector. Slavers demand a crew member, and Basket refuses: "We will never surrender one of our crew." The slaver ship surrenders instead and hands over Feras. "We actually need somebody for shields." When boarders come aboard, Basket turns off the oxygen and rotates hurt crew through the medbay.

A settlement offers fuel and scrap to rescue a spice dock from the Rebels. Fuel gets tight. One pirate jumps away before Basket can finish it, and another surrenders. At the quest beacon a Rebel Disruptor ions the shields, sends intruders over and starts fires. CY Heng drops off the crew list, and Basket jumps away: "I lost the quest, but I did survive."

With one fuel left, Basket gives an asteroid mining colony five missiles, but no fuel comes of it. Basket waits at the beacon, and the civilian ships in range do not answer. A Rebel Elite Fighter arrives with three shields. "I don't think he can get through the shields. No, I can't."

FTL battle: fires and intruders aboard the Stealth Cruiser while it faces an orange Rebel Disruptor in the target panel FTL event box: an asteroid mining colony asks for extra explosives, with the option to give them the requested 5 missiles

How it ended

The hull gives out and the Stealth Cruiser breaks apart. The GAME OVER box reads "One last explosion marks your fate as your ship is torn apart." with a score of 1117. The crew list at the end shows Butters, Jax and Feras.
