The commentary opens by recalling the last stream, where the A layout earned "the two achievements" and unlocked another ship. Now it is the B layout's turn. The hangar names the ship the Carnelian, with no weapons, no drones and the Crystal Vengeance augmentation. "So this one is set up so that you have stealth, crew teleporting, no weapons, and you have some shields." The crew list shows three Crystals: Rebekah, Giles and Mara. The stream covers four sectors and stops at the Sector 4 exit with the ship still flying.
A restart and a Clone Bay
The first try goes badly. A pirate fight wrecks the shields, and the commentary calls it: "I don't like this at all, I'm going to restart." The new game starts with the same three names.
The plan this time is to teleport all three Crystals into the enemy weapons room and lock it down so nobody can get in or out. Against a Mantis Interceptor it works. The boarders clear the room, and the fight leaves a free Hull Missile in the empty weapons bar. A refueling platform that "could ignite at any moment" gets skipped. At the first store a Clone Bay sits on the shelf for 50 scrap, and it replaces the Medbay. "I'm gonna get a cloning bay so that way I can clone my guys back."
Pirate space
Sector 2 is a Pirate Controlled Sector. A store sells Bruce Geryk, who stays on board to fix things while the Crystals are away. The ship takes a lone survivor home to a nearby planet instead of hiring them, and the reward pays for autopilot. A settlement sends the Carnelian after a pirate ship, and the event closes with "all of the would-be pirates dead."
Zoltan shields are the problem. "If I ever come across a Zoltan, I won't be able to hurt him." One well-armed pirate ship with a Zoltan shield and mind control demands a crew member. Basket refuses and holds out until the FTL drive charges. The next one sits in an asteroid field, so the Carnelian waits for the rocks to knock the shield down, then boards and wins. A Mantis named Lauren joins at the next store.
Rock space and a lost crew member
Sector 3 is a Rock Controlled Sector, and the commentary says another mission there is to destroy a bunch of Rock ships. The ship picks up a Burst Laser III, five shots per charge, but it never has the power to fire it. Then a ship with a cloning bay and a teleporting bomb gets the better of the boarders, and after the fight Rebekah is gone from the crew list. "I need the DNA bank is what I need."
The next store adds Gracie and the Reconstructive Teleport, which heals the crew whenever they teleport. A Rock captain asks the ship to carry a passenger to the Grand Basilisk of Numa V, and Basket accepts. At a derelict station the boarding team finds Zerimar.
Zoltan space, out of fuel
Sector 4 is a Zoltan Controlled Sector. "This is gonna be rough." An asteroid field helps again against a Zoltan ship with a fire beam and a missile. At a Zoltan security checkpoint the boarders can't get through the shield at all, so the ship dodges with stealth until it can jump.
When the Grand Basilisk's chief aide arrives, the passenger begs not to be handed over. Basket leaves the choice to the viewers, and the votes say refuse. The Basilisk's ship tries to run, but its panel reads "Enemy FTL Delayed." The Crystals win, and a new crew member, Ariadne, comes aboard. "We got a fully trained shield person." The FTL readout now says "NO FUEL."
How it ended
The win brings in a little fuel, but not much. A distress call from a Zoltan freighter leads to one more fight, which the Carnelian wins, and a battlefield search turns up no fuel at all. The beacon map flashes "NO FUEL," so the ship waits with its distress beacon on. An automated ship arrives, and Basket buys 5 fuel for 20 scrap. The Carnelian reaches the exit with Giles, Mara, Geryk, Lauren, Gracie, Zerimar and Ariadne on board. The sector map offers the Engi Homeworlds or the Rock Homeworlds, and the commentary plans for "next time." The stream stops there, in Sector 4 with the ship intact, before the next jump.
The game picks up again at the start of the next stream, already in Sector 5, the Rock Homeworlds. The Carnelian is torn apart there, and the game over screen shows a score of 1850. See Lanius Cruiser A, Lunch Stream, August 2, 2016.
