Lanius Cruiser A, Run 2: Faster Than Light

  • Published on

Basket flies the Lanius Cruiser Type A again, the Kruos, on Normal with Advanced Edition content enabled. It starts with a Chain Laser, an Ion Stunner, Hacking and the Emergency Respirators augmentation, and no drone system. The crew list shows Kirby and two Lanius, Markand and Triko. The run is one video, and it ends in Sector 2 when the Rebel fleet catches a ship with no fuel, score 772.

Chasing an achievement

Before the first jump Basket reads the ship's locked achievements from the pause menu. Advanced Mastery wants Hacking, Mind Control and a Battery active at once. Loss of Cabin Pressure means reaching Sector 8 without the ship's net oxygen going over 20 percent. "So that's doable," Basket decides: one crew member stays in a room with air, and the others "run the whole ship." Early on the oxygen meter reads 6 percent.

Sector 1 is a Civilian Sector. Basket hacks enemy weapons and points the Ion Stunner at their shields, and the first fights go quickly. "Their weapons are down, well that was easy." One ship surrenders "for some fuel, a drone, and a little bit of money." A Pirate Invader also gives up, and a new crew member, Ariel, joins and goes to the shields.

Into the nebula

Sector 2 is the Uncharted Nebula. Basket spends drone parts on hacking and puts most of the scrap into a second shield layer. Basket chooses to chase a Rebel ship hiding in the nebula, and it has a crew teleporter. Intruders beam in, and Basket keeps air in one room so the crew can fight there.

At the next beacon a damaged Federation ship slips away into the nebula, and Basket tries to follow it. The next jump lands in a plasma storm full of wrecks. Basket searches them. "Oh good, we got a free thing. So we got a free fire beam." By now there are only four fuel left, and no store turns up.

A Chain Vulcan and no fuel

Against an Auto-Assault armed with beams, Basket expects "I'll take no damage." More fights follow, and the fuel gauge reaches zero. Basket backtracks one beacon and beats a Pirate Interceptor, which offers missiles, scrap and a Chain Vulcan to be let go. "Yes, I want fuel, don't get me wrong. But a Chain Vulcan is also pretty sweet." The new weapon needs four power.

With no fuel, Basket turns on the distress beacon and waits. A ship offers fuel and asks to dock. "It's a trap, obviously." Basket asks them to keep their distance, and a Pirate Bomber fight follows. The Vulcan takes time to warm up, and missiles get through. That ship has no fuel to hand over either.

How it ended

The Rebels arrive next. The event text says the scanners spot a fighter with surplus fuel, and an Elite Fighter attacks while an anti-ship battery warning flashes. Basket hacks its weapons and waits for the Vulcan to build up. "Plan B. What a mess." The warnings stack up: shields critical, hull critical, engines critical.

The Kruos breaks apart, and the game-over screen reads "One last explosion marks your fate as your ship is torn apart," with a score of 772. Kirby, Markand, Triko and Ariel are all still on the crew list. Basket sums it up: "Buy fuel, that's the moral of the story."
