At PAX Prime 2015, Team B.S. sat down at a demo table for Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. One teammate wears a VR headset and holds the bomb in the game. Basket cannot see the bomb at all and has only the printed manual. The camera sits on the table facing them both, and the video is their first bomb, start to finish.
The setup
Someone at the table explains the rules before they start: for the first bomb, "all you have to worry about are the first three pages. The wires, the button, and the keypad. Everything else is just for higher difficulties." The teammate in the headset runs a short controls tutorial first, and the two of them start working on a set of wires before they realize it is still the tutorial.
Then the real bomb comes up. "I've got a bomb in my hand." "Okay, that's not good."
Wires, a button and a keypad
The game only works if they talk. The headset side describes what is on the bomb, and Basket flips through the manual to find the matching rule. The wires go first, after a round of counting colors and a rule read out loud: "We're good."
The button is blue, and the rule that applies depends on how many batteries the bomb has. With more than one, the answer is to press and immediately release it.
The keypad takes the longest. It has four white buttons with odd symbols on them, and the only way to describe them is by what they look like: "a squiggly snake, dragon looking thing," a star, a smiling face, a "backwards E with two dots," a "C with a dot." The manual has columns of symbols, and only one column holds all four.
Down to the wire
"How are we on time?" Near the end someone reads the clock: "9 seconds left. That's pretty close." The last thing they say is about a symbol, "We don't have one of those," and then both of them are laughing and the headset comes off. The video does not show whether the bomb went off.
