Minecon 2013: Mindcrack Pre-Panel Entertainment

  • Published on

On Day 2 of Minecon 2013, the Mindcrack group took the stage early and had time to fill before the official livestream of its panel began. Basket filmed it from the audience: almost 17 minutes in one long shot of the panel table, ending just as the livestream starts.

Killing time on stage

It opens with applause and a call for requests, and somebody sings a few lines. Then come the thank-yous. One panelist says it is "even more crazy than it was last year." Another tells the room, "All of us, we invest our heart and soul into our Minecraft project here. These moments here at these conventions make it real and make it really special." The crowd answers with a long round of applause.

UHC talk and a crowd quiz

Talk turns to UHC. There was a plan to play one live at the convention, but it did not work out, and the panel wants to do one soon. They ask the crowd what it wants to see, team games or free for all, and both get cheers.

The clock is never far away: "We've got 11 more minutes," and later, "Eight minutes to kill. You wanna sing another song?" With six minutes left, the panel starts a game of "Who traveled here the farthest?" People call out Australia, Japan and England, the panel asks for a show of hands from the UK, and then it is the Canadians' turn.

A prank story and the countdown

Near the end comes the story of a prank war on the group's server. One member found a row of letters built from ice and snow in a backyard, started taking them down, and set off a trap: "All the explosions everywhere. But I lived." For a long time the others did not know who was behind it, and one panelist admits to going through the server log to find out who had been online.

In the last minute the panel warms up with tongue twisters ("Red leather, yellow leather") and a few bars of "Careless Whisper." Then: "I think it's time to officially start the livestream." The video ends there, on a "Thanks for watching" card.
