Episode 34 of the GopherCraft Great Space Race opens with a contract that goes nowhere and ends on the Mun. Basket tries to build a jet craft for a test contract, finds the part isn't researched, and goes back to the Porcupine I. It goes into orbit around the Mun and comes down hard on a slope. Jebediah Kerman walks on the surface and plants a flag. When the video ends, the craft lies on its side, and nobody has made it to the Mun and back yet.
A jet engine test
Mission Control shows funds of 42,832 and science of 46.7. Basket accepts "Test Basic Jet Engine landed at Kerbin." "It may be kind of disastrous, but let's go ahead and give it a try." In the Spaceplane Hangar, a fuel tank, a Basic Jet Engine and a wing go together, with a parachute in place of landing gear.
It won't come together. "I guess maybe I don't have the technology to do it or something." The R&D screen shows the Aerodynamics node at 90 science, more than Basket has. So it's back to the Porcupine I.
Orbit around the Mun
The Porcupine I, with Jebediah aboard, is closing on the Mun. Basket opens the landing legs to show them off. "This is the porcupine in action." A burn near the Mun turns the flyby into an orbit, and the map shows it closed. Then Basket starts slowing down to bring it lower. "I've landed a few times now, but each time the ship kind of falls apart."
There is a lot riding on it. "Unfortunately this is all of my money, basically." Basket locks the suspension on some of the legs on the way down.
A hard landing
The ground below is not flat. "This is a bad spot to land." The Porcupine I touches down on a steep slope, tips over and rolls, and an explosion goes off beside it as parts break away. "We have engines on half of the ship." It rolls a long way down the hill before it stops. "We have stopped, for the most part."
A walk on the Mun
Jebediah climbs out for the EVA the race asks for. Jebediah takes an EVA report and a surface sample, then plants a flag named "Fourth Mun Landing" and poses beside the lander. "I did a moonwalk." Getting back in takes a few tries on the ladders, but Jebediah makes it.
Back inside, the EVA report from the Mun's Highlands goes home by antenna for 32.0 science. Basket also looks over the surface sample and a materials study.
Where it ends
"To be continued..." comes up with the Porcupine I on its side on the Mun and Jebediah inside. The plan for next time is to "see if we can somehow take off from the Mun on two engines on one side of the ship" and get back to Kerbin. "I don't have high expectations." The landing and the space walk are done. Getting home is not.
