Episode 35 is the last episode of the GopherCraft Great Space Race's first season on the channel. It opens with the Porcupine I already sitting on the Mun and Jebediah Kerman aboard. Basket gathers what science is left and then tries to fly home, but the craft tips over and explodes on the surface. The rest of the video is spent in R&D and Mission Control, and it ends on "To be continued..." with nobody back from the Mun.
The moment of truth
"It is the moment of truth." A card reads Year 1, Day 20, and the Porcupine I lies on the gray ground with its landing legs sticking out in every direction, Jebediah Kerman's portrait in the corner. Basket opens a Materials Study from the Mun's Highlands, worth 93.8 science if recovered and 13.1 if sent home by radio. "I think that this guy won't succeed," so the data goes out by transmitter. A Mystery Goo observation follows, and the crew report turns out to be done already.
Trying to get off the Mun
The plan is to throttle up and point the nose upward. "I have a feeling it'll just shoot forward and blow up." The engines fire, but the craft only turns over. "So it's just turning upside down." Basket drops the landing legs, rolls the craft down a slope and tries again. The Flight Results later log "Liftoff!!" and, less than 20 seconds after, the whole craft hitting the ground. On screen it tips, hits the surface and bursts into flame.
Catastrophic failure
The Flight Results read "Outcome: Catastrophic Failure!" The list of events includes "Jebediah Kerman was killed.", the Command Pod Mk1 crashing, and a flag labeled Fourth Mun Landing damaged by engine exhaust. "Well, so we got some science back."
Landing gear and contracts
Back at the Space Center, funds stand at 42,927 and science at 153.8. Basket spends 90 science on the Landing node, which brings the LT-5 Micro Landing Strut. "I need to first, you know, branch out my tech tree a little bit." Bigger struts catch Basket's eye too: "That might be what I needed eventually to land on the Mun."
Mission Control still lists science data from space around the Mun, exploring Duna, Ike and Minmus, and several part tests, two of them showing Landed: Complete. An offer to rescue Nedvey Kerman from orbit around Kerbin is there too. "I might need to actually rescue this guy to actually get some money back."
Where it ends
"Another Mun failure. This one was a little bit more interesting because I actually had some engines when I landed." The Space Center fades to "To be continued..." and the end card wishes the other racers luck "while we all race for the Mun." No kerbal has made it back from the Mun, and the video does not show anyone winning the race.
