Basket XIII picks up where Basket XII left off on GopherCraft's multiplayer server: the wings go back on, and the goal, in the commentary's first words, is "seeing if we can orbit." It does more than that. Basket XIII reaches orbit around Kerbin, flies on to the Mun, settles into orbit there and collects a pile of science with Raysy Kerman aboard. The way home takes fourteen in-game days, and it ends on re-entry, with the capsule and everything it learned lost in a fireball.
Wings, then an orbit
The last ship comes back out of the VAB, wings go on, and the number goes up to 13. Basket XIII rocks back and forth on the climb, and Basket tries to time the tilt for when it swings back upright. The boosters drop away, the engine is cut to plan a maneuver node, and the burn to round off the orbit takes about a minute.
It works. The map shows a Kerbin Periapsis of 181,607m, the first orbit of the season. "We still have some fuel left, that's exciting." Other ships are up there too, and the commentary notices "a bunch of somebody else's ships over there."
Off to the Mun
With fuel to spare, the next target is the Mun. Basket drags a maneuver node around the orbit until the map shows an encounter for a 24-second burn, then spends a while trying to make it cheaper. On the way out the crew logs a temperature reading and observes the Mystery Goo out in space.
The approach is "nearly on course, but not quite," so a second, five-second burn waits on the other side. In the dark there is no telling how close the surface is: "Hopefully we won't run into the Mun. That would be a shame." The burn goes off with Shift and X instead of the spacebar, and the map shows Basket XIII on a closed orbit around the Mun. A craft labeled Rover II Lander Probe sits landed on the surface below.
Science around the Mun
Now everything gets used. The goo window reads "Mystery Goo Observation while in space near the Mun," the thermometer logs again, and a crew report goes in. Raysy Kerman climbs out on EVA, and the game confirms "EVA Report from space just above the Mun's Midlands added" before Raysy boards again. The Materials Bay gets observed last. Everything stays on the ship to go home, with a heat shield under the Science Jr.
The Flight Results window at this point reads "Flight Status: Orbiting the Mun." Basket also adds an extra empty step to the staging, a reminder like a sticky note, so one wrong key cannot throw away the crew.
The long way home
Leaving the Mun takes several tries at the node. The burn that wins puts Basket XIII on a huge, slow orbit around Kerbin, "in a really weird manner." Time warp runs past the planned burn ("good news bad news, we have to go around again"), so a new node goes in, lowered until the periapsis drops into the atmosphere. Viewers weigh in on where to burn and how to come in, and the commentary settles on their advice: "a shallow entry is good."
Before going in, Basket points prograde and drops the spent stage behind the capsule, then closes the service bay doors. The plan for the parachute is to open it once the speed falls to about 250.
Re-entry
It never gets that far. The capsule turns retrograde and starts to glow, a viewer's note is read out that parts between the heat shield and the pod make re-entry "very picky," and moments later Basket XIII bursts into a ball of fire over Kerbin's highlands.
Where it ends
The Flight Results read "Outcome: Catastrophic Failure!" The SC-9001 Science Jr. and the Mk1 Command Pod both exploded due to overheating, and Raysy Kerman was killed, after a mission of 14 days and a highest altitude of 10,543,502m. None of the Mun science was transmitted, so none of it comes home: "We didn't transmit any of that, so we don't get any of it."
In the research tree the science counter reads 53.7, not enough for solar panels, and nothing new is bought on screen. The commentary's thought for next time is solar panels, so science can be sent home instead. The video ends at the Space Center's research tree, then the end cards.
