This Season 2 stream on GopherCraft's multiplayer server takes The Success 2010 XLT, the lab ship rebuilt last time, out of Kerbin's reach for the first time. Basket launches it, parks it in orbit, then burns for the Sun and spends most of the stream crossing to Eve. The ship arrives, settles into an orbit around the purple planet, and the lab sends science home until the stream ends. The Space Center starts the stream with 23.2 science and ends it with 3,186.1.
A lab ship on the pad
The Vehicle Assembly Building shows The Success 2010 XLT as it was saved: Mainsails at the bottom, the Mobile Processing Lab in the middle, new batteries and big solar panels along the sides, and, the commentary says, a heat shield. The crew list puts Bertris Kerman (Pilot) in the Mk1 Command Pod, with Corzer Kerman and Natalin Kerman, both Scientists, in the Mobile Processing Lab MPL-LG-2. There is no room for passengers. "I don't have room for any rescuing, so we're not going to do any rescuing this time around."
The Mainsails lift it straight off the pad, and Basket throttles back to keep the climb under control. When the outer stacks drop away, the commentary waits for the usual fireworks. "Oh, there was no explosion this time. Interesting." A burn at the top of the climb finishes the job: "Okay, so now we are in orbit above Kerbin."
Science in Kerbin orbit
Before going anywhere, Basket loads the lab. The barometer and thermometer readings, a crew report, and an EVA report from Bertris all go into storage instead of being sent home, because the lab can turn them into much more science over time. The Mystery Goo is saved for somewhere better. "I'm going to wait till I'm further away from Kerbin and do something better."
The Mun is skipped ("I've already done a bunch of science for the Mun"), and so is Minmus for now, where "I do have guys in there," the commentary says, for a later trip. The new target is Eve. "I've never tried to get to Eve, I don't think, so we'll give it a go."
The long way around the Sun
The first burn throws the ship out of Kerbin's pull and into an orbit of the Sun. While it coasts, Basket climbs into the lab's interior view for a look at the snack lockers and science cabinets. "Never been here."
Lining up with Eve takes a lot of fiddling with maneuver nodes, and the ship is slow to turn toward them. Time warp stops the spinning, which surprises the commentary: "that is cheating." A viewer suggests the lab can clean used experiments, and it works. "Cleaning with the lab works within the same ship, yeah, it's pretty cool."
The trip is long, and the lab keeps working the whole way. When it fills up, the big Gigantor XL solar arrays come out to keep the batteries topped up during the transmission, and the screen confirms the payoff: "427 Science added." The arrays turn out to be enough on their own. "We actually don't need as many batteries as I have."
Arriving at Eve
A correction burn finally brings up an encounter, and the map labels an Eve periapsis. As the purple planet grows on screen, Basket does a small test burn, then the real one. "So now we have an orbit." The map shows the ship circling Eve, and Basket does not bother to make the orbit any tidier: "it's kind of useless."
Where it ends
In orbit around Eve, every experiment runs again: crew report, EVA report, goo, materials bay, barometer and thermometer, all stored in the lab. Then it is warp and transmit, warp and transmit. "500 Science added" comes up more than once, and the last round adds 209. A viewer suggests parachutes for a landing on Eve, and the commentary weighs it: "if I land it then I won't be able to come back." The other idea for next time is Gilly, "which is I guess its moon."
The stream ends with The Success 2010 XLT in orbit around Eve, Bertris, Corzer and Natalin still aboard, and the Space Center showing 3,186.1 science. "So we can go on a shopping spree."
