Episode 3 of Season 1 is a stream that opens on Cycle 6, where Episode 2 stopped, with plants going into the new flower vases. Over this video the colony researches Farming, two more duplicants join, and a floor of Planter Boxes is planted with Mealwood. It ends on Cycle 10 with six duplicants alive and Fine Dining next in line.
Plants and a digger
"Hopefully that'll help with stress." A Bristle Briar card shows +15 decor, and another flower vase is placed. The commentary also changes what a storage bin may hold, keeping polluted dirt out of it because it gives off polluted oxygen.
Then a Select a DNA Blueprint window offers new duplicants. Basket picks Gossmann, a Level 4 Miner with +4 Digging and -3 Learning. In the Jobs screen most jobs are cleared, leaving digging, harvesting, combat and sweeping and mopping. On the recording, stress is "a lot lower than it's ever been in any other games," and the oxygen is "doing really, really well, which is not normal."
Choosing a research
On Cycle 7 the research screen opens. Farming wins, with the Algae Terrarium and compost in mind. The commentary also points out carbon dioxide gathering at the bottom of the base and water getting harder to reach. Power runs low, so new batteries and their wires get a higher priority.
A farm floor
The game soon reads "Research Complete." A new floor is dug out as the planting section, and a long row of Planter Boxes goes in, planted with Mealwood. Oxygen runs low, so algae is dug out of the nearby rock, "just so we can keep our guys breathing." An Algae Terrarium goes in beside the planters. The commentary also finds a way to copy one building's settings and priorities to the others: "that is handy."
Bubbles the cook
Another duplicant arrives: Bubbles, a Level 6 Chef and Quick Learner. Bubbles becomes the only cook, with sweeping, mopping and harvesting as backup jobs. At night a Hatch gets into the algae, and the commentary wakes everyone to deal with it: "sorry about that everybody, go back to bed."
Where it ends
The planter row gets food priority 7, and stress stays low, though Bubbles is "a little stressed out." On Cycle 10 the research screen opens again. Water pipes are considered, but Fine Dining wins, to get refrigeration. The stream ends there.
