Episode 12 of Season 1 is a stream that opens on Cycle 40 with 13 duplicants and not enough power to go around. Pipes get rebuilt, a second water pump goes in, Advanced Power Regulation goes into research, and a liquid filter is added. It ends on Cycle 42 with digging marked out next to the steam geyser, just before the wall is opened.
Pipes and strained wires
"Okay, so back to regular speed." The pipes are the first problem: "This whole thing is really confusing to me, these pipes." Only the pipes come out to be rebuilt, and deconstructing turns out to refund all resources: "that's amazing."
Then the real trouble: "we're still just having power problems." The coal isn't keeping up. The commentary looks at natural gas and hydrogen, and the Heavi-Watt Wire card says it carries more than regular wire without overloading, but it needs Advanced Power Regulation research. On the gas plumbing overlay the Electrolyzer card shows it using no water. "When it has power, it's converting water into oxygen. Not enough." On the power overlay, "these cables are strained," so Advanced Power Regulation goes into the Research Station.
Air, water and a second pump
Polluted air has crept into the base. "So I guess if I would have put in more airlocks, the polluted air from over here wouldn't have really gotten in. So that's, I guess, a lesson learned." A water pipe has stopped too, so carbon dioxide isn't being scrubbed. The Air Deodorizer card comes up in the Oxygen menu, with the plan to take out "at least two of these and then put in some air filters instead."
Water is the next worry. The Steam Geyser reads Over pressure, emitting 500 g/s of steam. For now, a second water pump goes in with power run to it. "So hopefully now the scrubbers will scrub better." Soon after: "Now we're actually breathing better, sort of in general." And at least, "we haven't lost anybody yet."
Hydrogen, an airlock and the geyser
"Power, power, okay, um, what can we do about power?" A gas pump goes in up high, piped down to the same spot the other pump feeds, to pull in hydrogen that escaped. "We don't need more people right now, we just need to try and keep the ones we have alive. We need to get more water."
So the duplicants dig toward the geyser with a ladder down, at priority 7. An airlock goes in to keep polluted gas from rising. Some algae turns up below. "Our oxygen is great now, but it's because we have algae going, so it doesn't quite count." Stress is climbing, the commentary notes the crops aren't being collected, and a Rotten Meal Lice card turns up. Pipes and wire then run toward the geyser's pocket.
A liquid filter
A liquid pipe comes out and a Liquid Filter goes in. "I don't see an arrow. But I believe that it's supposed to be like this." The goal is "to be able to put polluted water in this water reservoir, but then have it filtered out." Its card reads Not Pumping, and the commentary can't tell if it works: "all of our water pipes are full so it's hard to say."
Where it ends
On Cycle 42 the research count reads 13 and no new research is picked. "Oh, I have new power stuff. So if I have overloaded circuits, I can put this stuff in. But right now it looks like it's doing okay, because I have no power anyway." The geyser plan is to "break open this wall and then water will come out and it will not destroy everything." Dig markers go down beside the pocket, "the moment of truth," and the video ends before the dig is done.
