Episode 17 of Season 1 is a stream that opens on Cycle 59 with 17 duplicants and a memorial going up. Duplicants keep collapsing from low oxygen until the game's own tooltip explains what was missing: a downed duplicant needs an assigned Medical Cot or Rejuvenator to be rescued. It ends on Cycle 63 with 16 duplicants, three deaths on the alert list and a pocket of chlorine nobody knows what to do with.
A memorial and short air
The video opens on a Tasteful Memorial under construction. Its card says it prevents stress and the spread of disease caused by unburied corpses. A duplicant is moved onto a manual generator to keep it running, while hydrogen is piped off and burned for power. "How's our oxygen? Not good."
Then a duplicant's panel reads Incapacitated, with a countdown to death and Low Oxygen. "I don't know how to fix you. Don't die." Nothing on screen seems to help, and another duplicant goes down soon after. By Cycle 60 the alert list reads Duplicants have died (2) and Starvation. A new duplicant, a miner, comes out of the Printing Pod, and the Microbe Musher is switched back on for mush bars, "because we're out of the other stuff."
A second hydrogen generator
On the gas plumbing overlay, gas is backing up in the pipes. A second Hydrogen Generator goes in on the regular grid, fed by a gas filter that sends hydrogen one way and lets everything else carry on. All of it goes to high priority "because we still want power."
Medical cots
Another duplicant goes down, and this time a tooltip spells it out: "These Duplicants need to be rescued before they kick the bucket," and "Duplicants must have an assigned Medical Cot or Rejuvenator to be rescued." The colony already has both. "I already had the things, I just didn't know I had to do things." The downed duplicant is assigned to the Rejuvenator, and Ren, also in bad shape, goes on the list too. "Ren was just rescued, awesome."
The Rejuvenator needs power, though, and power is low, so its patient keeps getting back up. The answer is more beds. Four Medical Cots go in across the top, next to the graves, because "they don't require power," first at priority 8 and then 9. The card says a cot accelerates the regeneration of a wounded duplicant's health.
The new cots sit where nobody can breathe. "Our medical beds are in areas you can't breathe. I understand. I'm working on it." Floor tiles are swapped for gas permeable tiles to let air up. Before it gets there, another duplicant dies ("suffocation, I saw that coming"), and the alert list moves to Duplicants have died (3). Ren, at least, is resting on a Medical Cot.
Chlorine
On the gas overlay a green gas turns up: chlorine. "I feel like I don't want chlorine and I don't think I have anything to scrub it out." Later the camera finds a Morb in a pocket of it, its card reading Toasty surroundings and Emitting Polluted Oxygen. The commentary runs through what the colony has taught so far: the critters that turn resources into coal were culled, but "in hindsight they're valuable." "So I've learned more."
Where it ends
Nails is made a cook, a chef is printed, and the colony is back to 16 duplicants. The research tree comes up, and the commentary wonders about chlorine: "maybe I just need to cool it and then it will turn into a liquid." No research is picked, and the Research Station reads No Research selected. "We lost some people but we did learn some valuable lessons about medical beds." The stream ends on Cycle 63 with the starvation alert still up.
