Episode 18 of Season 1 is a stream that picks up on Cycle 63 with 16 duplicants, a food shortage, and power and air problems that feed each other. The power room gets rebuilt with an airlock, a Fertilizer Maker keeps natural gas coming, and a new pump line goes down. It ends on Cycle 66 with food still short and more building planned for the power room.
Hot plants and a closed circuit
"Now the main thing is trying to get enough power and enough oxygen." The alert list shows Starvation and Food shortage. Some farm plants are stifled: "it's toasty, so it's actually just too hot here." Water is backed up because the machines are low on power, "so we're not really getting out CO2, like we're supposed to be."
Power is the core of it. The manual generators feed a closed circuit, "so then none of this works when somebody isn't running." The Power Switch card gets a look: "I don't have to keep on like deleting wires. I like it."
Rebuilding the power room
The runners "can't run for very long right because they can't breathe." On the oxygen overlay the room shows red, with the Manual Generator idle and the air reading Carbon Dioxide, Unbreathable. The room gets bigger, with "two hamster wheels" wired up, walls to keep the natural gas in, and "a real airlock."
Polluted water turns up in the room too. After a mop order is canceled, the floor becomes mesh tile at priority 7, so polluted water can drain down to where it gets filtered. An air filter goes into the power room as well: "Everything we do makes it much more complicated."
Natural gas from polluted water
The Fertilizer Maker card shows it using 150 g/s of polluted water and emitting 18.3 g/s of natural gas. The polluted water is something "we have plenty of, and that produces natural gas that we are then using to generate power." It works "so long as the power keeps on coming from those guys running," though "it's hard for them to keep up."
The filter checks out
One filter had done nothing because "it was low on power." On the liquid plumbing overlay a pipe now carries polluted water, and the commentary confirms: "So it's filtering out polluted water from these."
Food, pills and water
"So food shortage is a problem." A bigger room is dug out at priority 8 for food. At the Apothecary, the Placebo Pill recipe reads 100 Kg of water and 100 Kg of sand ("it's a placebo pill, awesome"), and a few are queued with a batch of the second recipe.
Water is running low, so a new line runs down from "the dumping spot": a ladder, a dig, and a Liquid Pump with power run above it.
Where it ends
On Cycle 66 the alerts still show Food shortage, and the food room gets bumped up: "Really they just need to make food." Another oxygen producer is planned for the runners, who are "pretty important parts of everything." Tiles and wire are going down around it when the video ends mid-sentence: "I'm not really using the fertilizer, but..."
