Episode 3 of Season 4 picks up the colony from the last stream. The jobs board is built now, so a lot of this hour goes into the new jobs screen, working out who likes what and who is good at it. Five more duplicants join, each picked for a job. The second half goes into a new clean water tank, which turns into a long dig through bad air. When the stream ends there are eleven duplicants, the tank is still unfinished, and the bathrooms are waiting on pipes.
Back in the colony
The stream opens on the loading screen. "I forget exactly what we're working on but I'm sure we'll figure it out." Food is growing, a storage room is going in, and a dig is open to let the carbon dioxide sink. Nothing is being researched, so power comes next: "I want more power options."
Then the priorities get sorted: power at 9, oxygen at 8, food at 7. The jobs board is next in line.
Handing out jobs
The jobs screen is new. Every duplicant starts under Unemployed with No Job, and each one has interests, skills and a morale number. "This is very, very different than before." Hearts mark what a duplicant likes, and a low morale means a job will cause stress. Bubbles likes to cook, but "their cooking skill is actually zero."
The jobs go out one at a time. Hassan becomes the Research Assistant and Camille an Apprentice Miner, and over the stream the board fills in: Ruby digs too, Travaldo and Nisbet build, and gofers carry supplies. The game offers a new duplicant, and Mi-Ma joins as the farmhand, since "now we have a farmer." The duplicants get little hats for their jobs, and the schedule screen shows bath time, work time, downtime and bedtime. Auto prioritize stays off: "That's not very fun."
Plants, lamps and a supercomputer
The commentary reads out finished research: "more power," for bigger batteries, then "lamps and plants and stuff." The duplicants are "pretty unhappy people," so flower pots and lights go in around the water cooler and the rooms. One plant stops growing for lack of light and gets uprooted. Sanitation goes on the research list, but the game asks for a better research station, so a super computer goes in where it fits for now.
A duplicant is unhappy because "it's too hot over here," and the commentary has no fix for that yet. Ari joins for supply jobs. More beds go in, a second battery helps with a power capacity problem, and an old storage area gets cleared out.
A clean water tank
The water needs a better home. The plan is a clean water tank built from the bottom up, with the old tanks kept for dirty water. It goes slowly. The sandstone can cave in, part of the dig has no oxygen, and the duplicants keep working anyway: "you can't breathe, it's very nice of you." Turner joins as another gofer, and a massage table goes in so the duplicants can de-stress.
Polluted oxygen settles in the dug-out space, which is "not great for the clean water tank." Then a builder masters a job, and Nisbet later moves up to Architect. Liam joins and becomes the cook: "not your ideal job, but you're good at it." One wall of rock is too tough to dig until a miner moves up the ranks.
Power is short too, with "two people constantly running on the treadmill just to try to power this place." Mess tables and a grill go on the list, and a pump is planned to pull the bad air out, but there is not enough metal for it yet.
Bathrooms and pipes
"So all of our bathrooms are out of order." The duplicants start making messes. The last print choice has a duplicant who likes to tidy, and Ellie joins to "clean up everything." Plumbing now allows a water pump, and a clean water pipe gets run up from below. Sinks and showers are planned in a new bathroom, but the showers need more metal.
Where it ends
The pipes for the new bathroom are planned out, and the commentary says the work will finish next stream, with the goal of getting the clean water tank free of polluted water. The top bar shows 11 duplicants, 46,416 kcal of food, and "Insufficient oxygen generation."
